The capital of Sichuan province in China, Chengdu is an important economic and cultural center of the western regions of the country, and its airport is among the busiest in the world, while Chengdu Railway Station is one of the biggest in the nation. It is located on the fertile, vibrant Chengdu Plain, which is also known as the “Country of Heaven” or “Land of Abundance” in various literature, due to two branches of the Yangtze running through it and irrigating the vegetation. As a capital city, Chengdu is quite the urbanized place, and functions mainly as a springboard from which travelers may visit other places. However, it remains a unique destination on its own, with heritage sites and the legendary giant panda being among its main attractions. Take our 2015 tours and activities to uncover what makes Chengdu a great place to visit.
Hop onto a Chengdu City Classic Tour and run through the must-see sights of the city over a period of 10 hours. Visit Wuhou Temple, made in honor of Zhuge Liang, the Shu Han prime minister during the Three Kingdoms era. See the site of Kuan and Zhai Alley, one of three historic sites under conservation status, along with Wenshu Monastery and the Daci Temples. Here you’ll find boutiques, snacks, restaurants, teahouses, inns, and more, all to provide you with a comfortable, leisurely experience. From here, go on to Qintai Street, which is built in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Then, visit Qinyang Palace, the oldest and largest Taoist temple in Sichuan. Finally, visit Du Fu’s Thatched Cottage Museum, a national heritage site, which was once the home of the poet Du Fu of the Tang Dynasty.
Travel further with a Huanglongxi Ancient Town and Chengdu Panda Breeding Center Tour. Here you will visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, at which you will learn about the breeding, habitat, and lifestyle of one of the rarest animals in the world, the Giant Panda, of which it is said there are only 1,500 individuals remaining. Interact and play with the pandas during your stay, then have a lunch of Chinese cuisine. After lunch, your driver and guide will bring you to Huanglongxi, a well-preserved historic town that is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region. Finally, on the return trip, visit Sichuan Brocade Museum, where you’ll get a history of the ancient textile known as Sichuan Brocade.
