Tour Ends at Marundeeswarar Temple
Your Chennai tour will start with an early-morning visit to Marundeeswarar Temple. We'll head inside the 1,200-year-old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and you'll get to see its spectacular Dravidian-style architecture up close. Here, we'll participate in the morning Pooja ceremony as locals gather to praise the temple deity, Marundeeswarar Lingam, which is believed to have formed naturally - not to have been sculpted by human hands. You'll learn the stories and legends behind this historic, spiritual place, which is said to hold magical healing powers, curing believers of illness and disease.
Post ceremony, we'll enjoy a proper south Indian breakfast at a local restaurant. You'll get to devour the rich flavors of Chennai with a dosa, considered to be one of the state's most beloved dishes.
From there, your Chennai tour will take you through the ancient arts, with a visit to the renowned Kalakshetra Art Academy. This academy is a vital centre for artists focused on the ancient dance form of Bharatanatyam, Carnatic vocals, and instrumental music. You'll learn about the time-honored art, and get to witness young dancers and musicians learning the techniques and "mudras" (movements).
We'll also explore an art gallery dedicated to regional art and aesthetics. We'll finish up our cultural Chennai tour by boarding a tuk-tuk and riding it through the streets back to where we started.
