Step outside the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere at the Skydeck Chicago, a 103-floor building designed with ledges to provide a dizzying 1,353 feet view straight down from the Willis Tower.
Explore the city of Chicago in the most exciting way by visiting the Skydeck Chicago, a building consisting of 103 floors that can provide the best scenic view of the city itself. Located at the Willis Tower (formerly known as Sears Tower), below Skydeck Chicago are more than 100 busy companies engaged in the fields of insurance, financial services, prominent law, and transportation. Spanning 1,450 feet high, the Skydeck is the highest observation deck in the whole of the United States. On a clear day, you can see 4 states and over 50 miles in each direction.
Visit the Skydeck Chicago's so-called "Ledge" and marvel at the dizzying sight that its clear floor will give you. The ledge was designed with three layers of half-inch thick glasses fused together to form a panel. No need to panic when a lot of people join you for a view at the ledge since it can handle up to 10,000 pounds of weight and pressure. To give visitors a clear view even on winter, the ledge boxes were manufactured with heat tracing to melt the snow right off its glass.
Many attractions are there not just the ledge. Interactive and educational attractions are scattered across the whole floor to teach its visitors about Chicago's architecture, sports, food, people, pop culture, and music. A theater presentation, entitled "Reaching for the Sky" is also available to share the story of how Chicago set architectural standards around the world by way of of the construction of the Willis Tower and many of the city's famed landmarks.
