A town at the tip of the Roskilde Inlet holds numerous indoor and outdoor activities, perfect for excursions out of Copenhagen.
The town of Roskilde is one of Denmark’s oldest cities, a prosperous trading post of Scandinavia. The Viking legacy becomes very apparent when you visit. The Viking Ship Museum houses archeological finds from Viking ships, lost and found. At the Roskilde Cathedral are the tombs of Danish kings and queens from the last 800 years. The best restaurant in town is an old sailing boat called Sagafjord, which features lovely meals as well as breathtaking views of the inlet. Arts and music are rich and vibrant in this town as well. There are numerous concerts while the Roskilde Festival draws in crowds from all over the world year after year. For more local highlights, go to the town’s market square. For an impressive reenactment of Viking travels, go onboard a Viking ship for a cruise of the many islets, past forested seaside hills rich with avian life.
