About Copenhagen Christianborg Slot

As far back as 1176, a castle has stood on the grounds, built by Bishop Absalon. In the following centuries, a new structure was built over it, Castle Copenhagen, which was replaced by a magnificent baroque castle that Christian VI had built in the early 18th century. This one burned to the ground in 1794. Another replacement shared the same fate in 1880. The third Christianborg was built between 1907 and 1923; it leaned heavily towards the Baroque style and featured a spire that was 104 meters tall. Today, all these castles have left remnants, mostly underground. Visit them all, if you wish, through the guided tours. Regardless of the numerous restoration attempts, power circulates from room to room as Christianborg Palace houses the House of Parliament, the Supreme Court, and the Prime Minister’s department. Other special features include the royal stables, a magnificent statue of Christian Frederick V, and the Royal Library Gardens.
