Meet the representatives of Media Luna, a community based tourism organization, at Urubamba bus station and prepare yourself to discover the stunning natural beauty and rich culture of Peru's Sacred Valley.

Start your day with a one hour and a half hike to Maras Salt Mines, located 12km away from Urubamba. Marvel at breathtaking scenery and at the white salt evaporation ponds, in use since Inca times. Learn from your local guide - a Maras village elder - about the history and operation of the Maras Salt Mines which conserve the method of extraction used by the Incas.

After that, you will be taken to Media Luna, a small community of 145 families located located 7km away from Urubamba, in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

There, you will discover fresh local ingredients and exquisite flavors cooked over a wood fire as you enjoy a delicious Peruvian meal in the house of a member of the organization. If you dare, do like Peruvians do and opt for the cuy, which means guinea pig, yes! The cuy is a traditional festivous dish of Peru.

The afternoon will be dedicated to Peruvian customs and tradition workshops held at the locals' houses for you to experience the real Andean culture.

Try some organic chicha, the drink of the Incas, and learn from a local Chichera how this corn beer is brewed.

Then, pay a visit to a local artisan and try your hand at traditional weaving, learning to spin and dye yarn naturally.

You will also discover the secrets and curative properties of local medicinal plants before learning the ways and rituals of guinea pig farming.
