With its ultra-modern skyscrapers, luxury resorts, man-made islands and high-end malls, it's easy to forget that Dubai was a humble fishing village in the middle of the desert. The vast expanse of sand continues to surround the city even as the emirate continues to undergo massive development and cement its position as a global city. Today, the desert outside the city is a place where untouched landscapes and local traditions still exist and a trip to the desert remains one of the top things to do when in Dubai.
Venture out into the desert after a 20-minute drive away from Downtown Dubai and embark on an unforgettable desert safari experience, mixing action-packed sand sports with a taste of the Bedouin way of life.
Venture out of the city and into the desert on a four-wheel drive, the easiest way to traverse both city roads and sandy terrain. Take in views of the vast landscape as you enjoy your 4x4 desert safari adventure around the desert areas near Dubai or even the exclusive Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. Experience a thrilling dune bashing ride as your driver expertly navigates the sandy hills of the Arabian Desert on the way to camp.
Enjoy a number of Arab experiences - from traditional activities that let you experience Bedouin culture to more modern adventures - on your desert visit. Get up close to majestic falcons, take part in camel treks and discover other desert wildlife. Experience the desert through modern day thrills like ATV or sandboarding. Feast on traditional Arab cuisine at a Bedouin camp at sunset, try the aromatic shisha, get a lovely intricate henna tattoo and enjoy entertainment like belly dancing and tanoura. Spend the night in the desert in tents under the star-studded sky for an "Arabian nights" experience.
Watch the sunrise over Dubai's desert from a hot-air balloon and experience the closest thing to a magic carpet ride. Fly over the sea of sand and marvel at the spectacular dunes, dramatic terrain and the local flora and fauna.
Great day out
I have used City Discovery a number of times now with this trip and a previous one. Excelent to dea with. I have had no problems at all. Keep up the good work.
The sand dune bashing and dinner were good - but I loved sleeping under the stars and the long discussion with Bobby (our guide) over a fire the next morning.
Awesome experience, highly recommend it! But it does not take half a day (the 4 hours they advertise with), unless you're a sandboarding addict.
