What To Expect
A historical tour of Fairbanks traces the development of the North Country from the early days of the gold rush to the discovery of "Black Gold." Get a glimpse of the famed TransAlaska Pipeline, historic neighborhoods and learn about the effects of permafrost on the local population.
Afterwards, enjoy a treat - one of Alaska's premier gold mining attractions, Gold Dredge No. 8. Your visit includes and entertaining presentation with actual footage of the Dredge in operation, gold mining displays and exhibits at the Bunk House, Bath House, and Supply Center. A tour inside the Dredge reveals how the machine scooped up and separated gold from gravel. Your tour continues with the opportunity to pan for gold. Enjoy an all-you-can eat miner's lunch at the Dredge, a tasty introduction to Alaska's mining history that takes you from 1905 to the present day.
Your tour continues with 4-1/2 hour cruise aboard the sternwheeler Discovery. Experience the thrill of cruising the historic Chena and Tanana Rivers on a classic riverboat evocative of those turn-of-the-century vessels that plied Alaska waterways. Take in the sights and sounds of the river and then disembark at the Chena Indian Village where a Native guide will take you ashore for an informative tour.
