The Piazza della Signoria with the sculptural masterpieces of Loggia dei Lanzi: It is an incomparable "open-air museum" and the elegant Palazzo Vecchio with the embattled tower has been the political headquarters and one of the symbols of the city for centuries. Founded in 1299 based on a project by Arnolfo di Cambio, it was the seat of the Seignory (Palazzo della Signoria) in the fifteenth century.
In the 1500s Cosimo de' Medici appointed Vasari to transform it into a sumptuous palace for the grand-ducal family.
Inside we can admire, besides the elegant courtyard, the beautiful "Salone del Cinquecento" and the whole complex of the "Quartieri Monumentali", frescoed by Ghirlandaio, Salviati, Bronzino and Vasari and embellished with sculptures by Michelangelo and Donatello.

Piazza della Signoria
Your guide will introduce you to the extraordinary splendour of one of most renowned, historical and photographed squares and palaces in the world. Piazza della Signoria with the sculptural masterpieces under the Loggia della Signoria, by Cellini and Giambologna.
Founded in 1299 and designed by Arnolfo di Cambio, it has been the political headquarters of the town since the fourteenth century even after the Medici conquered Florence in 1530. When the Medici family moved out from it to Palazzo Pitti, they named it Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace).

Entering the building, you encounter the exquisitely elegant courtyard, the magnificent Hall of the Five Hundred and the intriguing complex of the Monumental Residential Quarters, frescoed by Ghirlandaio, Salviati, Bronzino and Vasari, as well as the statues by Michelangelo and Donatello.
