What To Expect
Join a tour like no other to the Chianti countryside! Visit Siena and San Gimignano and discover the cultural and historical offerings of each destination.
On your way to the antiquated city of Siena, catch glimpses of endless vineyards and olive trees through the panoramic windows of the tour bus. Admire the walled medieval hamlet of Monteriggioni that is fully restored until today.
In Siena, enjoy a guided tour of the the historical parts of the city starting with the Basilica of San Domenico. During your tour of the basilica's interiors, discover a 13th century treasure chest containing an important relic of Saint Catherine of Siena.
Next, go on a walking tour of the city's streets where you can see towering palaces and medieval houses along the way. Admire the facade of the magnificent Siena Cathedral at the end of the walking tour. Join a guided tour in a Museum and an Oratory of a Contrada. This oratory showcases some of the traditions and memoirs of ancient life in Siena when contradas (districts that divide the town) were present. See prize banners and other materials won by the contrada inhabitants during the Palio horse races in the past. Frescoes, historical documents, and plasters from notable Italian artists can also be found inside the museum next to the contrada oratory. Value this experience as these relics are not usually displayed for the public.
The tour of Siena ends with a free time to roam around the beautiful public square of Piazza del Campo where you can also admire the Palazzo Pubblico, also known as the town hall. Take your lunch (not included) during the free time allotted.
Continue your journey to San Gimignano, a small walled town notable for its soaring watch towers, frescoes, and famous works of art. Visit a wonderful museum inside a medieval palace where you may learn about the lives of the town's inhabitants during the 16th century.
Afterwards, see demonstrations from local craftsmen practicing their craft as they produce handmade items patterned from the culture of their ancestors. Sample local Sienese wines and sweets such as cantucci, panforte, and focaccias after the craft demonstration. Stroll around the town at your own pace.
