  • Explore the city's Moorish Quarters and a world heritage site, Albayzin
  • Visit chapels and churches all over the city

Description

Go on an exciting journey from Islam to Christianity, illustrating the thriving transformation of Granada; city of myth and splendor.

Come and admire the picturesque Albayzin, the old Moorish quarter which was declared a World Heritage site in 1994. Feel the charm of an area which presents the same infrastructure as it did in the Muslim period; hidden corners, winding narrow streets, Moorish houses (Carmenes), minarets, bath houses (Hammams). Find yourself transported into the medieval times when coming inside the Corral del Carbon, a former Caravanserei, merchants hostel in Granada. See the city's religious history on your visit to the Casa de Zafra. Unravel the tradition of the Moorish World. It is from the Albayzin where you can capture some of the most spectacular views onto the Alhambra, from various viewpoints. A walk along the Carrera del Darro will immerse you in the hassle of this side of the town.

The contrast between the Muslim past and the Christian present is more evident in the Historical Center. The tour takes you to the central Bib-Rambla Square, considered the heart of the town, which is located nearby the ensemble of the Cathedral and Royal Chapel. Opposite to the Chapel you'll find the Madrasa, following on to numerous alleys of the old silk market (Alcaiceria). Where

traders chat and sell local craft in a distinctive Moorish setting.

Take a journey to the past of this fascinating city. And join us in a completely different itinerary through the streets of Granada led by our official guides.

The perfect introductory tour to Granada! The meeting point is at the local tour operator office located in downtown granada, very easy to find. Our tour guide Violeta was excellent. First, she took us around the historic center of Granada and shared lots of interesting historic facts about the city. We visited the Sagrario Church, the stunning oratory of the Madraza, Casa de Zafra moorish house and Casa Porras house, places that we would have missed without this tour. The Madraza is just incredible. We also explored the narrow streets of the Albaicin and viewpoints and ended with the Moorish craft shops, stalls and tea house streets of the lower part of the Albaicin before going back to the historic center of Granada. Definitely a must-do tour on your first day in Granada.

Explore Downtown Granada and Admire the Cathedral of Granada

This Gothic- and Renaissance-style cathedral was built about 180 years after the fall of the Granada Mosque over its remains and so it is a fusion. Sculptures, paintings, stained glass and elaborate domes give the cathedral a large luxurious atmosphere.

Learn about the history of this mosque school of the 14th century and admire its Nasrid splendorous style.

  • 11:20

    Alcaiceria Market

Explore a typical market from the Islamic era, reminiscent of the Souk Bazaar in the Middle East. Walk through the Arab-style bazaar with narrow arched pathways where you will be able to shop for some souvenirs.

  • Corral del Carbon Coal House

Then head to Corral del Carbon Coal House, one of the most important buildings preserved from the Nasrid period in Granada.

  • 11:40

Plaza Nueva Square and Carrera del Darro Street

Stroll trough Plaza Nueva square and the beautiful cobblestone street of Carrera del Duero, enjoying views of the Alhambra.

  • Visit the Moorish House of Zafra

Marvel at one of the best hidden Moorish treasures of the Albayzin.

At the beginning when we saw the guide at the meeting point, we were not sure if he was one of the tourist or a guide as he was we...aring casual cloths, but he was very nice and easy to understand. We were walking around the narrow streets of Albazin, where even a car can't get in - I think it was a difficult route to do without a guide. We took many great pictures and we are very satisfied with the tour!
