Description
Explore Albayzin and Sacromonte quarters, both World Heritage sites. Two of the most charming and colorful areas in town with lots of history.
You can stroll through the Albayzin at sunset, walk the maze of narrow winding streets scented with jasmine, enjoy the breathtaking views of the Alhambra and contemplate the Carmenes' Gardens (typical Moorish houses). This is the way to follow its Moorish roots. A delight to the senses.
The Sacromonte quarter is where the gypsies that accompanied the troops of the Catholic Monarchs settled after the town was reconquered. It's famous for its caves, where the Gipsies continue to celebrate their fiestas with flamenco dancing and singing. It was here where the traditional Zambra was born, with local dances and songs which are still enjoyed every evening.
The route begins late afternoon. The group will be able to enjoy the views of the Alhambra a number of times throughout the evening.
After the guided walking tour, all the members of the group will be treated to a drink and tapa, atypical custom in Granada.

What a great off-the-beaten-track tour ! We met our tour guide Juan at the Cicerone office in downtown Granada, then took a local bus (interesting!) up to the Albaicin area and started our walking tour from there. We were taken to the Sacromonte area (we would never have gone there if it was not with this tour as it's really off the beaten track) and discovered a very traditional and charming neighborhood with incredible views of the Alhambra and the whole city and lots of typical caves where people live. Then we explored the Albaicin area passing by many little cobblestone streets (again, without the tour we wouldn't have gone there) and spent some time at the fabulous San Nicolas viewpoint and at another hidden viewpoint where the crowds don't go! The tour ended with a drink and tapas at a traditional bar where we had an informal chat with the tour guide.
