Description

Visit one of the greatest masterpieces in Renaissance architecture from the XVI Century in Granada is the Cathedral, which was built on the grounds of the former Main Mosque. It was considered a symbol of power in the new Christian order of that period. The Royal Chapel attached to it equals the Cathedral in beauty. This is where the Catholic Monarchs, Isabella and Ferdinand are buried. Joan the Mad and Phillip the Handsome are also buried in the chapel.

Stand below the main facade of the Cathedral and appreciate the majesty of this Renaissance building. It seems that time has stopped in this corner of the town and one can easily travel back in history when contemplating this colossal monument. The tour will take you through its different periods till present day. Inside, discover the keys to its symbols and location and admire the details of the artistic elements.

The Royal Chapel is impressive due to its solemnity. This mausoleum has two sets of sepulcher made in pure white Carrara marble which represent the personalities who are buried in this chapel. Within the chapel, contemplate the iron screen which is one of the most outstanding in Spain. In the Sacristy, find a collection of Flemish paintings belonging to Queen Isabella which illustrates her religious devotion.

Don't miss this one of a kind opportunity to see two of the most emblematic monuments of Granada that will take you through a period of great transitions on the people's beliefs of that time. Two different worlds presented by two different styles in architecture: Gothic and Renaissance. Witness a decisive moment in the history of Granada which then reflected in the rest of Spain.
