What To Expect
With significant offerings in visitor education and services, plus the continued run of the spectacular IMAX® presentation of the "Grand Canyon Movie," the National Geographic Visitor Center provides the premier orientation and information spot for tourists seeking a vivid and memorable Grand Canyon experience.
Those entering the National Geographic Visitor Center will find views, stories and secrets of the Grand Canyon that only National Geographic, the world's most respected resource for natural history, can provide. The Visitor Center includes convenient services such as Grand Canyon National Park Pass sales, information and tour reservations, free Canyon maps, National Geographic store, photo galleries and satellite images, Arizona Office of Tourism, Explorer's Cafe featuring Pizza Hut Express, and more.
At the heart of the Center is the 500-seat 7-story giant screen Theater, home to "the most watched IMAX® film ever." The 34-minute "Grand Canyon: the Hidden Secrets" penetrates the innermost depths of the Canyon, taking viewers where they could not normally go and showing them things they won't otherwise see through the startling reality of the IMAX® format. The Hidden Secrets moves through time, starting with the mysterious Anasazi who inhabited the Canyon 4,000 years ago, to Major John Wesley Powell's challenges in conquering the unexplored Canyon and raging Colorado River in 1869.
Grand Canyon: the Hidden Secrets, the most watched IMAX movie of all time, plays exclusively at the National Geographic Visitor Center. Projected on to the giant screen, accompanied with chair-shaking surround sound, this classic film, through the magic of IMAX technology, transports the audience into the twisting depths of the canyon on an adventure rich in history. They will meet the mysterious Anasazi people who lived there 4,000 years ago and ride the raging Colorado River with history's daredevil explorer John Wesley Powell before soaring above amazing vistas.
Visitors to the National Geographic Visitor Center will also be able to interact with the only permanent exhibit of Kurt Wenner's 3D Art in all of North America - the Grand Canyon 3D Pavement Artwork.
