What To Expect
Our staff will welcome you at the Luggage Claim Area, where you will be assisted and transferred to our office. We will give you a briefing of our services, what to expect during your stay, and some essential tips. Shortly after, we will take you to the Iquitos port, where you will enjoy a speedboat ride to the Heliconia Amazon River Lodge. See the Amazon River clash with the dark waters of the Nanay river and admire the beautiful jungle landscape and little villages.
We will stop at the Monkey Island, a natural reserve for endangered species of primates. Be enlightened on the ways to preserve nature and keep the beauty of Mother Earth alive for generations to come, and of course, enjoy your time with the playful monkeys!
After the 90-minute boat ride, arrive at the Heliconia Amazon River Lodge where you will be welcomed with an exotic jungle drink! After checking in and settling down in your room, enjoy an exotic Amazonian lunch.
Our first excursion will be a jungle hike in the Yanamono primary rainforest reserve, accompanied by our expert guides. You will learn to identify the different flora and fauna you see, including medicinal plants, trees, the lovely heliconia flowers, the Turkey Vulture, Black Fronted Nanbird and the different species of small monkeys.
Return to the lodge for some leisure and relaxation, accompanied by a breathtaking view of the Amazonian sunset. Our next excursion will be a boat ride at night, where you will fully experience the sounds of the jungle in the absence of light. At the end of the day, return to your lodge for a good night's sleep.
Rise with the birds first thing in the morning! We will ride on a boat to see the birds feeding together in groups. Look out for sightings of the Tuki, Ringed Kingfisher and Black-collared Hawk. We will then return to the lounge for an energizing breakfast.
Next, we will go on a native fishing expedition where you will learn the local techniques of catching a fish, and even how to lure in Piranhas. If you are lucky, you can have your catch cooked for lunch later at the hotel. If you are even luckier, you will see the enigmatic pink dolphins that will give you memories to last a lifetime!
After lunch, we will ride to the Yanamono island where you will catch a glimpse of the emblematic Giant Water Lily. This queen of water lilies is surrounded by a kingdom of beautiful flowers that will take you away to Nirvana.
When the sun goes down we will go on the Nature Night Hike, an evening trek where you will witness the transformation of the Amazon in the darkness. See the tree frogs, snakes, night owls and birds that come out to play at night, and listen to the beguiling symphony of sounds. Return to the lodge for dinner.
We will have breakfast, then go to the riverside for an immersion into the Yaguas community and the Amazon jungle inhabitants. See their homes, school, church, stops and learn about their austere yet meaningful ways of life. See the world from a different perspective as you take in the culture of a different community and learn more about yourself along with learning about others.
Enjoy a sunset cocktail back at the lodge, followed by a scrumptious dinner and a relaxing night.
After a hearty breakfast, we will go on a 10-minute boat ride on the Amazon River to a Trapiche farm, a sugar cane distillery along the river. See the craftsmanship and artistry of the locals as they process the sugar cane and turn it into liquor, and get to taste the exotic bverage! Take some home for yourself or as a present. We will return to the lodge for lunch and check out. We will transfer you back to the airport.
