Visiting the Museum of Archeology is like going on an amazing foray into the mysterious past. There are 20 galleries filled with artifacts from Sumeria, the Ottoman Empire, Anatolia, Ancient Egypt, Byzantine, the Orient, the Ancient East, Ancient Rome and Greece. Despite all these, a visit to the museum could only create within us a deep hunger for more.
How can 5,000 years of history fit into one place, after all?
Highlights are Sumerian tablets, pieces of the wall of Babylon, Roman marble statues, the fourth-century Alexander sarcophagus discovered at the royal necropolis of Sidon in Lebanon, a superb frieze of a bull from the Ishtar gate in Babylon, and recently excavated pieces.
