About Istanbul Dolmabahçe Sarayi

Join a guided tour so you can step inside an Ottoman Palace distinguished by extreme opulence.

Dolmabahçe Palace was built as a summer retreat, and for luxury, by Sultan Abdulmecid during the 19th century. With 285 rooms, 6 baths, 68 toilets, and with rooms covered in gold, crystals, porphyry, and marble, this palace easily outshines all other royal residences. True, very few homes could rival the palace’s opulence. At 4-and-a-half tons, the chandelier in the Holiday Reception, a gift from Queen Victoria, is the largest in the world. Be sure to visit the Two-Sided Salon, a room with a breathtaking view of sea and garden--but we think your breath will be taken away first by the experience of being in a room with a gold ceiling, mirrored and jewel-encrusted walls, and intricate parquet floor. Don't forget to look around for the Crystal Staircase.
