About Istanbul Adalar

The Princes’ Islands are very popular among locals and travelers desiring to get away from the crowds and noise of the city. This chain of nine islands used to be a place of exile for the Ottoman nobility. Today, the people of Istanbul willingly exile themselves for a day of peace and quiet on any one of the islands, where only horse and cart are allowed to transport people around.

The four largest islands are: Kınalıada, Burgazada, Heybeliada, and Büyükada. The ruins of a monastery sit on Büyükada.

There are still pockets of Greek, Armenian, and Jewish communities on the islands. Büyükada. Visit the Princes’ Islandsfor  a glimpse into the multicultural way of life that used to flourish in Istanbul.
