What To Expect
See Istanbul as you never have before on a tour of some of its urban highlights! Get to know the culture and history hidden beneath every attraction you visit from your witty guide!
Begin the tour by meeting with your tour guide at the Blue Mosque. Once the mosque has opened, take a tour inside as your guide teaches you about its history and architecture. As you admire the beautiful structures around you, get to know where its name was coined from. Commissioned by Sultan Ahmed I when he was 19, this mosque was completed after seven years of construction. The sultan had wished to build a mosque that would look even better than the Hagia Sophia.
Next, skip the long queues and head over to the Hagia Sophia, a mosque that had once been a Greek Orthodox basilica and a mosque. Be astounded by this mosque's surprising gold-laden interior. See the Hagia Sophia's dome which measures almost as large as the dome of the Pantheon in Rome. Ask questions from your guide as he explains to you the history of how this 1,400-year-old structure became as it is today.
Come to the Basilica Cistern, a fine structure built in the 6th century and is one of the several hundred cisterns that can be found beneath Istanbul. Also known as the "Sunken Palace", the basilica cisterns provided the locals with fresh water and sometimes fish straight from their cellars. These cisterns were held up by old temple pillars that had been taken from destructed ancient temples.
Enjoy a buffet-style lunch a Turkish restaurant where you will be served with Turkish kebab meats (lamb, beef, chicken), rice, salad, sauces, borek pastries and hummus.
Walk over to the Grand Bazaar which is considered one of the largest covered markets throughout the world. Complete with over 5,000 shops in 60 streets, this bazaar deserves to be called the ultimate shopping hub in Istanbul. See and shop for Turkey's jewelry, fashion items, ceramics, carpets and various types of products as you go along. Take a detour to a flight of stairs that will take you to see sweeping views of the Bosphorus River and the entirety of the city. Then, visit the Spice Bazaar and discover the city's traditional spices that have been available since the beginning of it history.
Take an exciting cruise down the Bosphorus River which separates Asia and Europe. Your group may be combined with 15 other people and their guide, but those are all the people you'll be seeing as you board the private boat. Go sightseeing as you explore Istanbul in yet another great perspective.
After the cruise, we'll make it uphill towards the Galata Tower for an exterior view. We will enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire city and the Galata Tower from a nearby rooftop café, where you are welcome to stay at the end of the tour to enjoy a cup of Turkish coffee or a beer.
