What To Expect
Step into 15th century Istanbul as you enjoy a tour around the Topkapi Palace grounds along with a knowledgeable tour guide!
Start off the tour by meeting with your guide. Enter the Topkapi Palace using your pre-reserved tickets and take in the historical sights before you. This 15th century palace was the main residence of the wealthy Ottoman sultans for almost 400 years. Home to as many as 4,000 people, the palace was not vibrant with lavish colors, but with servants, concubines and eunuchs (castrated men who guard women's living quarters) as well.
Discover the best sights inside the palace such as the areas that have only recently opened to the public eye. Enter the palace kitchen where up to 800 cooks cooked at least 6,000 meals everyday. A line of small domes and chimneys make the kitchens a recognizable structure.
Next, head over to the Foot Soldier Barracks where an attractive pipe room, private baths, and an ornate prayer room can be found.
Then, head over to the private living quarters of the Sultan's many wives, children, concubines, eunuchs, and his mother, the Harem. Here, you will learn about the private life of every sultan, how a concubine rises to become a favorite or official consort, why crown princes and eunuchs are the only ones allowed in this area and many more!
Gain access to the general access areas of the palace such as the terrifying Audience Room and the beautiful kiosks that overlook the Bosphorus River.
This tour will not enable you to visit the most crowded rooms since they are known to have long queues. Instead, your guide will introduce you to some of the relics found in the crowded areas including the sword of Muhammed and the forearm of St. John the Baptist. You may visit the crowded areas after the tour and at your own pace.
