What To Expect
Take an early morning flight to Kayseri or a night bus to Ürgüp. Walk through the "Fairy Chimneys" in Devrent Valley, the Pasabag (Monks') Valley, and practice the ancient technique of pottery production in Avanos. Visit Göreme, the open-air museum with its earliest churches and chapels carved in fairy chimneys presenting some of the finest examples of frescoes. Go to the Pigeon Valley and the petrified valley of Uchisar, the highest point in the region. Have dinner at the hotel where you will also spend the night.
After breakfast go on a visit to the Hospital Monastery. Walk into the "wonderland" at Kizilcukur (Red Valley) and the village of Cavusin with its rock-cut dwellings. Take in the Underground City of Kaymakli, a rock-cut city up to 8-9 levels beneath the earth where early Christians used to hide from Roman and Byzantine persecution. Explore the rock formations in Çatalkaya. You'll get to have a fantastic overview of the fairy chimneys from Esentepe. Then take the evening flight from Kayseri or the night bus from Ürgüp to Istanbul.
