About Johannesburg Pilanesburg National Park

Formerly a farmland within a band of extinct volcanoes, the Pilanesburg National Park is a sanctuary for many endangered species. It is renowned for being the site of Operation Genesis, a massive game resettlement. Animals sheltered here include the “big five” (lions, elephants, leopards, buffalos and rhinos) as well as cheetah, hippopotamus, and crocodiles.
