What To Expect
Stroll around the city of Kampala and have a glimpse of their daily struggles and issues. With the help of initiatives and NGOs, Kampala is slowly emerging in terms of the development of its economy and living conditions of the local community.
Visit Young African Refugees Integral Development, a local NGO providing programs to improve the situation of the local community. Drop by one of YARID's development programs, Nsambya-YARID Centre, a training center to empower women through counselling, job training, and workshops. Walk through the streets of Kampala and see the local landmarks of the city such as the Nakasero Market, Owino Market, Old Taxi Park, and Hindu Temple. Along the way, stop by the main YARID centre, the site for literacy and micro-finance programs, and meet some of the local refugees. Listen to the stories of the locals to understand where they come from and admire their perseverance. Then, know more about the history of Uganda as you tour around the Lubiri Palace, the official residence of the kings of Buganda displaying traditional royal architecture, and learn how the Buganda Kingdom was established. Lastly, wander around the Uganda National Mosque, formerly known as Gaddafi National Mosque, and admire its impressive and magnificent architecture.
