Well this tour was Very Special, even if the weather was not the best all day. It is well worth the price and the Driver / Guide was excellent. We choose to up grade and take the Gold package which included Lunch at The Volcano House, they were ready for us and served a wonderful lunch. Great Service, View and Food thank you. But the highlight of the trip was at the Jagger Center in the Nation Volcano National Park. The over look at the viewing portion was crowed but in between the rain and very low clouds we were treated to see the glow of the very active volcano about 500 to 1000 yards away, the same on that erupts about 10 days later and we also rode on the highway that has serious crack and lava erupts on the road. We were in Maui 3 days later in our condo and felt the earthquake from the same we were at that Sunday before. Great Tour and wonderful memory from our trip.

So far one of the best tours I have experienced!
Enjoy the island tour ! got great info and insight on the Big Island & enjoyed visiting the crater !
Our guides name was David and he certainly enhanced our island tour. He was very informative, entertaining and knowledge. We would... recommend the tour and David to everyone.

The tour meet and exceeded our expectations. The only bad thing was that we went New Years Day so some of the stops were closed, ...but the tour guide made up for it. Highly recommend tour and great way to see the major highlights of the island. more
We had approximately 12-1/2 hrs of great fun, interesting facts about the Island and many great sights. Our driver (Wayne) had so... much knowledge about the Island and the plants, etc. and he made sure that we saw as much as possible in our day on this tour. It was great. more
I went on the Big Island Circle tour on August 22nd & it was amazing! Our tour guide David, sorry David I cannot recall your H...awaiian name, was exceptionally informative & friendly. I learned alot about Hawaii in the hours spent on this tour, David is a master tour guide!! This was my first visit to Hawaii, but certainly not my last visit!
Mahalo David, & Aloha!! Elaine more
Our bus driver was Kimo and he was terrific! He had a great sense of humor and really knows the island! It's a great way to g...et a good overview of the entire island along with a lot of history and information you wouldn't get if you just rented a car and did the trip yourself. It's a long day, so I wouldn't recommend taking small children, but for adults and older kids, it's great. We had plenty of time at the stops to shop, eat, or see the sights. This is good to do early on your vacation so you can rent a car and return to areas you liked and want to explore further on your own. more
I had a great time and recommend this tour to everyone. There is much to see and do on this tour. I esp. enjoyed the Orchid Nurs...ery and Parker Ranch. The Portuguese Donuts were delicious; everyone should try them. David, our guide was very knowledgeable; ask for him. Aloha! more
wonderful tour would do it again
Initially, we thought this tour was going to be a little on the lame side. We were by far the youngest couple on the bus, and the ...tour guide was a little cheesey from the get go. But as we got going, we got into it...the tour guide was great, and knew a ton. The stops pretty much hit everything we wanted to see on the Big Island, from Kona coffee, to Vocanoes National Park...we even saw sea turtles hanging out on the beach. All in all, we were extremely glad we did this tour...and thouroughly pooped by the end of it! more
We had a week on the big island and this is the way to go for an overall idea of what the big island has. Our tour guide, Jan, is... a walking encyclopedia of the big island, history, geography, topography, he knew it all. Aloha. more
This was a great tour. We got to see so many things in one day that we would have missed if we had done it by ourselves. There is... no way you could see so much unless you knew the island well and where everything was that you wanted to see. It is a long day, but for us it was worth it. more
Our tour was lots of fun and very informative. Our driver knows the island and its history well, and shared many stories along th...e way. He was friendly and funny. We visit the island every spring, and this is the first time I've not had to be tour guide when we have first-time friends over. They loved it, and we did too. Everything went right that day, including the volcano crater collapsing just as we pulled in, and a giant turtle sunning himself on the black sand beach. Definitely worth the dollars, and I'd recommend it to anyone. more
Our guide, Tommy, was very interesting and knowledgeable about the island.
The tour was outstanding and our tour guide (?) was also outstanding. His running commentary of the areas we were visiting was ve...ry enjoyable.
I hope if any of the visitors to the Big Island want to see the island in a limited time they should contact your company and take this tour. It's a long day but well worth the time.
Thank you for this opportunity to promote this tour. more
We went as a family, 7:00am to 7:pm long day! This was very important to us because our first time on the Big Island and we wanted... to know as much information on History, Native Islanders, and Volcano...We had a great time! this Tour really gave us a little bit of everything so later we used this knowleage to tour ourselves throughout the remaining week. We learned alot and felt well informed, The driver was great I believe his name was Jimmy and he was keeping everyone entertained by his jokes, knowleage of the Big Island and playing the televison about the Island's history. We had fun on each stop and somtimes would like to have stayed longer but realized had to move along because of many stops along the way, we loved the Mauna Loa (macadamia) Tour, Volcano Tour, Candy Factory, Lava Tube ect...
This trip is for everyone, I like the fact we had time to shop, by the time Lunch came around everyone was hungry so that helped to take a quick lunch however, by the end of the day everyo more
Wonderful tour and driver is excellent!
The tour was excellant Jan our tour guide done an excellant job if i here someone who is coming to the Big Island i will recommend... the tour to them more
Great way to see around the island in a day and to find the places you want to go back and visit. Our driver Tom did an excellent ...job on getting us around in air conditioned comfort and was very knowlegable about the Big Island. Had very little rain so the weather really cooperated nicely. Best of all ,I didn't have to drive so I could look out window and take it all in. Highly recomend when you first arrive first or second day to get aquainted with Island ,then go back to the places of interest to you on you own. more

a little too long for smaller children or infants, but for others it is a great way to be introduced to the island..the tour guide... wanda was great..the stops were time appropriate and the sights and views were super...do at the beginning of any stay on the big island..long but well worth the $ and the time... more
We learned a lot about the big Island. Our bus driver was informative.
The tour was great, and the tour guide, Tommy, was very informative. We did the tour at the beginning of our trip, so we were able... to go back to the places we liked to spend more time. more
we always take this tour every time we go to the big island of Hawaii. it changes every time
We were really glad we booked this tour for the day after we arrived to the big island. It gave us a chance to circumnavigate the ...whole island with a knowledgeable guide, and the chance to return to some of the places on our own during the rest of our stay. We were able to ask a lot of questions about the island, and if we return to the bus promptly during or stops, that's gives us time to go to other secondary places. The bus was comfortable and the guide was great, but what really made this trip was the vistas and views of the island. Definitely recommend those who want an idea of how big the island is. more
We had a wonderful driver who very professional to told us about the whole island!
THE TOUR WAS VERY WELL ORGANISED, WE WERE PICKED UP ON TIME. WE HAD A PLEASANT DRIVE IN SPITE OF THE WINDING ROADS. WE WENT UP TO ...A HIGH ALTITUDE- IT GOT COOLER. THE TOUR WAS BREATH TAKING AND AN AWESOME ADVENTURE. WE HAVE MANY FOND MEMORIES OF OUR TOUR & I THINK THIS IS A MUST DO ACTIVITY WHEN VISITING THE ISLAND. more
Worth every dollar, had a great day. Very informative, highly recommend.

It was a great time, friendly and funny tour guide with lots of background about the big island.
This was the best way to spend the 1st day of 5 on the Big Island. Do it early in your itinerary. Tommy gave us valuable insight ...regarding each stop of the tour. And in between. We would not change a thing on this tour. Thanks Tommy for a great day. more
Sue and Ted.........
This is a great tour!! However, should skip the candy factory and add something else of interest. Our driver was great and full ...of knowledge of Hawaii history. I would definitely recommend this tour. more
Had a wonderful time! Great way to see highlights of the island in a relaxed manner. Our guide is very knowledgeable. I just wish ...we were given more time to stay longer in the different destinations but that would have made the whole trip longer, too. I highly recommend if you have limited time in the island but would like to cover great spots and points of interests. We had lunch at Lava Rock cafe. Food was good at a descent price. Restaurant staff was efficient and friendly. Will do it again. Very pleased. more
We enjoyed the complete tour of the whole Island. Sal our driver was very knowledgeable. We learned a lot and saw alot. It wa...s a long informative, fun day. more
James our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the island as he had grown up on the Big Island. He tried making funny conversat...ion to the riders and seeing what topics we liked to talk about. He made great time for our tour and gave us enough time to see all the attractions.
The stops were frequent enough so the trip didn't seem as long as 11 hours and didn't get restless. I enjoyed stopping at the gift shops as much as the scenic destinations because this was my only time on our time to shop. The national park stops were great and we felt we got to see the main attractions of the volcanoes. Next time I go to the Big Island I will probably take a more in depth volcano tour to see more of the park.
The bus picked up riders at all their own hotels which was convenient for my group and I would recommend this tour company to anyone! Great price as well! more
Great way to see the entire island. Saw beautiful views and learned volumes of history!
My husband and I took this tour on our last day on the Big Island. We were originally going to drive ourselves until I looked at t...he map and saw that it was going to take almost 4 hours to get there! So I am so very glad that I found this tour! Not only did we get to go to the volcanoes but, were were also able to go to the Kona Coffee Museum to learn some lessons about how Kona coffee is grown on the Big Island. We were able to sample real KONA coffee and we also purchased some for when we come back home to California. I definitely recommend buying 100% Kona coffee if you can afford $70 per pound. We also got to see the Volcano Lava Tube and walked through the rain forest, Rainbow Falls, Candies, Parker Ranch, Black Sand Beach, Hamakua Macadamia Nut Factory and parts of Hilo. Our bus driver Hilary, was very knowledgeable and we learned so much history about the Hawaiian Islands from him, we definitely recommend this tour to anyone!!! This tour saved us from driving around the Big Island ourselves especially since the Big Island is the largest of all the Hawaiian Islands! If we ever make our way to the Big Island again in the future, I will definitely book this tour or another one of their wonderful tours! Mahalo!!! more
I love this tour, give me an overview of the big island. Highly recommend.
The tour was a fantastic way to see the entire island! Tons of history provided by our guide Sal. Very much worth doing to see how... different the island is as you go around. more
The tour was great! It was our first time on the island and the tour gave us the opportunity to relax and enjoy the scenery. We too...k the tour on our first day so we marked down the places we wanted to go back and see without being on a time schedule. There was just enough time at each stop to enjoy the scenery, taste and shop. Our tour guide,Rick, was knowledgeable about the history of the island and gave us opportunities to ask questions. The lunch was great, it would have been nice to have other options besides the fish, chicken and burger. I guess based on who you booked it through determined the meal choices. Some people had a sandwich that I think I would have preferred. But the chicken I had I sure was just as good. The food was so good half of us had to sleep it off between the stops. Rick even made a couple of extra stops so we could stretch our legs and wake us up. The tour is good for families, however children may become restless because there was a couple time there was about 45 minutes between stops. But if a child can handle a flight to the island they should be okay on the tour.
The tour was great it would be nice if one was available to go to the Botanical gardens.
Absolutely FABULOUS!! Sit back, relax and let someone else to the driving. Rick was fun and knew a lot about the Hawaiian history.... The stops were timed perfectly so we didn’t get tired just sitting on the bus. The places we stopped at gave us samples so just as we would get a little hungry we were able to get something to hold us over until we had our Fabulous lunch. It would have been nice to sit together as a group instead of the restaurant dividing us up based on who we booked the tour through. Even though you are on bus for the whole day there are a lot of stops and sites to see that the time goes by pretty quick. I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone visiting the island for the first time and especially for families with kids. If possible go on your first day that way you will have time to go back to some of the spots if you wanted to. Also I recommend bring bottle water or something to drink. more
The tour was great! Our guide, "Kimosabe", was extremely informative and was amazingly somehow able to fill almost the e...ntire 12 hours with his local knowledge and humor. The Big Island Circle tour gave a great overview of the island and made it easy for us to see where we wanted to come and visit next time we come to Hawai'i. The stops were a good length: just enough time to get a feel for each of the locations, but not enough time to really explore at a leisurely pace--perfect as a way to see the Big Island that does its scope justice. Conveniently enough, the stops were approximately 45 minutes to an hour and a half away from each other so you could go on bathroom breaks and stretch your legs without feeling antsy. All in all, I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to get a bigger picture of what the Big Island of Hawai'i has to offer at a reasonable cost and with a very well-informed and talkative guide. A great value for the money. more
This tour was a wonderful way to see some of the big island's greatest attractions in one day, while learning much of hawaii&...#039;s culture and history from a native tour guide! Jimmy, our tour guide, did a great job of providing background on all the tour stops and about the scenery along the way, while mixing in some light-hearted humor and even singing a traditional Hawaiian aloha song to end the day! The visits to the coffee plantation and macadamia nut factory were fun and provided lots of tasty samples. The black sand beach was a memorable experience, which included several sea turtle sightings. The visit to the volcano national park was incredible and so fun to eat lunch with the smoking volcano in the background! And the tunnels were amazing, walking through a beautiful rainforest setting and through the marvelous wet caverns - this was one of our favorite parts of the trip! Overall, such a great trip, so glad we booked through Polynesian. And the 11.5 hours went by quickly and comfortably in the bus. Plus, they picked us up and returned us to our hotel, which was such a great bonus, very convenient! They also provided a shuttle to pick us up at the hotel, which took us to the motorcoach, and our driver of the shuttle, Bill, was also very knowledgable of the Hawaiian culture and so friendly. He made being up at 6 am a pleasurable experience! more

I am currently on vacation with my mom and this was our second time to the Big Island and the first time we took a tour. It was a... last minute decision and we were able to find to find a great discount through hawaiiactivities.com. Normally, we do not do tours, but we felt unsure about driving and wanted to relax instead of drive to places. The island tour exceeded our expectations and we learned a lot of stuff that we eagerly shared with other tourists when we went to our luau last night. There were plenty of stops to get out for pictures, buying souvenirs and restroom breaks. The lunch was exceptional and I think it was worth the gold upgrade. I also enjoyed the free samples of Kona coffee, Hawaiian chocolate, and flavored macadamia nuts, etc. My mom loved the Lava Tube (cave) and seeing the volcano crater.
All-in-all, it was very relaxing and enjoyable. We had a lot of fun.
Also, for those with disabilities, I have a problem walking long distances and on uneven paths, so I did not do the short hike to the Lava Tube (cave). But, that's OK, as people are free to sit out from activities that they cannot do and I found the tour to be disability-friendly. They even have a special bus if advance notice is given for those in wheelchairs. The activity provider is Polynesian Adventure Tours Hawaii and they have a good reputation on the island according to the resort we are staying at.
Have fun! more
We had done some reviews on the site and picked this after positive feedback and glowing reviews.PLEASE add this as a recommendati...on... Greg was an awesome tour guide he knew all the back stories to everything on the island. He was knowledgeable and funny. The tour took us all around the island in a nice and easy pace.
Highlight was going to the national park for the volcanic activity and also the amazing waterfall. My girlfriend and I recommend that you should do it on the first day as it will make the island exploring easier. Unfortunately we did it on our 2nd last day..
We didn't have a big group as it was Halloween but it made the tour more nimble and Greg was able to do some more random stop offs to make the day more memorable. more
Our all-day Circle Island tour of the Big Island is the most efficient and smartest way to go for a first time visitor. The Big Is...land is vast; you can see up the coastline from the shore, but that distant point can be 75+ miles away. Generally speaking, I am not a fan of big bus tours. However, sitting high in the Polynesian Adventure Tour bus gave us a comfortable and panoramic view, and left the road worries and driving to our driver/tour guide, Sal. Sal is originally from the East Coast, but while he was driving, we learned about the Big Island's history, mythology, flora, fauna, language, etc. and it became obvious he took pride in his job and in his adopted home of 24 years. He joked that we would be tested, but it turned out, he was tested because before our last tour stop at the Hamakua Macadamia Nut Company, he became ill. Despite vomiting and G-I distress, he "held it together" and drove the bus safely into the parking lot before exiting quickly to the men's room. An aid car took him to the hospital and the Polynesian Adventure Tour Company sent a relief bus driver and mini-van to get us back to our respective hotels. It was an extra long day, but I learned the next day when I called Polynesian that he was at home resting and would make a full recovery. Kudos to Sal and to Polynesian Adventure. more
An excellent choice to know the natural hawaiian wonders, it was a tour with emotion and expectations of how dangerous nature can... be. The guide was friendly, with experience and patience even with foreign tourist like us. As a mexican tourists visiting for first time, we always remember this beautiful island we highly recommended this tour, Do not lose this tour, that can be a great mistake you can lost a great adventure that few sides of the word can offer. So thank HAWAIIAN ACTIVITIES for this option. And like we say MEXICO "ESTUVO PADRISMO" it means: was great, fun, awesome and amazing.

Thanks to this excellent tourpudimos We spend a pleasant day with my granddaughters and daughters and my wife liked the landscapes that despite not master the language seemed beautiful landscapes I see in this trip.We never imagined such beauty and exotic landscape and excellent coffee. I along with my wife took this tour on 12th November 2015. Initially I was little bit hesitant for booking this tour, but I am gla...d I did it. Volcano National Park visit and Lava tube are the best experience of my life. We had a lot of fun at Kona coffee visitor center shop. This tour covers lot of places to take pics like Orchid garden, Waterfall, etc . Our Guide stopped bus at Candy factory and macadamia nuts factory (crazy nuts with lot of flavor) which was fun. Overall, this tour definitely exceeds my expectation and I recommend everyone to take this tour if you want to cover important attractions of Big Island in one day. Most Importantly, All credit goes to guide who is very friendly and informative ( He even lend me his umbrella at volcano national park).
Hi I'm Mexican and travel with my niece, Hawaii, take the Circle Island tour & Volcanoes National Park Sightseeing on Mot...orcoach and our guide was very friendly and was Greg.Greg though not perfectly master the language, we did spend a day execelente . We visited the national park and was exciting to see so much natural beauty, also the view of the waterfall was hermosisima, but the most fun was shopping visit the ranch sweet coffee shop and macadamia rich aromas and flavors. Thanks for the orgabizacion of these trips.
Mexican recommend this trip enjoy it, do not miss it.you do not always have the opportunity to discover both in one trip besides the excellent company
Our girls loved the tour. They got to see the best of the big island in one day. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. The had ...enough time at each stop to look around. The bus picked them up right by where they were staying. more

My family and I enjoyed this tour a lot. Although it was a very long day around 12 hours from time of pick up to returning to the ...hotel, our drivers made the ride enjoyable and the day go by fast. Our shuttle driver Billy picked us up from the hotel and brought us to the motor coach where Kala took over for our journey around the Big Island. Both drivers were very knowledgeable and friendly. The tour was very informative with many interesting topics ranging from history of the land, communities, cultures, folklore, and meaning of the many Hawaiian names. Kala was wonderful and shared many stories as an insider who grew up and lives in Hawaii. We were able to visit many locales including a coffee farm, black sand beach, lava tube, candy store, volcanoes national park, Hilo, Kona, rainbow waterfall, and macadamia nut store. We would have liked to have more time per stop and for lunch but understand this would have either cut back on the number of sites to see or stretch the tour beyond 12 hours. Food at the volcanoes restaurant was good and can be preordered but the wait was still long for the food to come out. Overall, it was a great tour that gave us a glimpse of Big Island's many attractions. more
Long trip but with many interesting stops enroute. The driver / guide was very informative especialy on the local folklore
A great way to get a snapshot of the whole island. It would have been great to see the bay where Captain Cook landed but that was ...the only main thing we missed. We travelled with two little boy (6 and 8) and it was a massive day for them but overall great. more
We met Cuzn Greg at in Kona and boarded the bus for our tour. The tour started off relaxed instead of hurried. Greg gave our to...ur a lot of history and humor. The tour was a great way to begin our stay on Hawaii. We were able to see sights and decide whether or not we wanted to go check it out again. The local knowledge given to our group by Cuzn Greg was insightful and left me wanting to learn a little more. All the stops were long enough to take in whatever sight you were at but not long enough to get boring. We plan on coming again and will do more tours. more

Fantastic trip.... Driver was Greg. Yery informative and had a great since of humor....
The journey to the Volcanoes National Park was truly amazing. Our driver, Jeffery was full of snippets of information, folklore an...d modern stories about Hawaii and kept us entertained and engaged all through the day. The tour was a snapshot of the island from the black sand beaches, foggy hills, rainforest like areas to grasslands and rolling hills. However, the highlight was the abode of the volcano goddess, Pele. We were lucky enough to see some lava fountains on the edge of the Kilauea caldera. The trip was planned well so that we had enough time to enjoy the majesty of the volcano, the atmosphere of the Rainbow waterfall and of course the coffee, shortbread cookies, macadamia nut candies and the various flavours of macademia nuts at different store stops along the way! This trip was one of the most memorable highlights of our trip to Hawaii. more
This tour was good! We went to the black sand beach and saw the turtle. It was awesome. And the rainbow falls was also fantastic. ...Great experience! more

Good value for the $$'s and lots of interesting info, great overview of island but a VERY long day. Lunch stop is mediocre an...d expensive. Few too many "gift shop" stops but overall a good experience. more
This is a good activity to do on your first day on the island. It will give you a good overview and leave you with ideas of places... to go that the bus may have stopped at or is not able to stop at. The driver has much information and can help with ideas of places to go especially if you have a rental car. We drove back to some places the next day and visited at our own pace. Baically a good choice whether looking for ideas or not. It lets you see some of the hotspots. more
The only down side was that we stopped at places mostly to shop. You were given 20 minutes to spend money and then it was back on... the bus. Not really enough time to check things out. It was nice however to know where I wanted to go back to. more
Expected small "shuttle" had big bus. Larry, our driver very informed and was great guide. Large bus was too many peop...le to enjoy all stops. Tour also very long because Big Island is just that Big! We were on the bus 11 hours. After 8 hours I was ready to be done with this tour. Also Larry our driver wanted to show a video and the replacement bus he was given did not have a working video player. Glad we took the tour because then we did not have to drive great distances to sightsee the important highlights and then we could just enjoy the area around our hotel for the remainder of our vacation. We also met several people on the bus that we will remain in contact with. Larry made an otherwise LONG day very enjoyable and helped a large group be compatible. more
Makes for a long day but you see more than you would if you drove yourself. Plus the driver gives valuable history and facts about... the Big Island and it's attractions. more
My husband and I took this tour on our very first day on the Big Island. We took the advice of others to tour the island early on ...so we'd know what we'd like to see again or not see again. I'm glad we did this because sure enough we ended up driving around the island again and knew exactly where we wanted to go. Plus saved time because we didn't have to revisit places we already saw. The guide was very informative. We learned much and really enjoyed the time. It's a long day but worth it. Aloha! more
This is an excellent way to experience a little bit of everything the Island has to offer and give you an opportunity to decide wh...ere and what you'd like to follow up on and see more of. I'd advise taking it at the beginning of your stay. May not be suitable for young children simply because of the length of time it takes... 12 hours plus on a bus. Unfortunately for us, they seem to need to do some work on their buses as we had to be moved to a different bus 3 times during the trip because of mechanical issues. The guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining while pointing out all the landmarks and history of the Island such as Rainbow Falls, the Black Sand Beach, Kona Coffee Plantation, Lava Lake and so much more. more

This was a good way of seeing the diversity of the Big Island in a single day. Our driver, Cousin Greg, made the long trip (about ...11 hours) quite enjoyable. We loved the Black Sand Beach, the Volcanoes National Park, and passing through rain forests north of Hilo. We would have preferred seeing more of the sights around Hilo instead of some of the commercial places such as the cookie factory. Overall, we enjoyed it. more
We felt the tour was very good. Without it we would have not been ablel to see near as much. Our driver Hilary was also very goo...d with the orantation of the historoy and such. seeing the volcano and all was a thrill. We felt this tour was the highlight of our 6 night stay in Kona. more

This is a great opportunity to "see" the Big Island. I stress "see" as we did not really "experience&quo...t; anything. That was ok with me because we used the tour to find out what we would want to return to for a full experience. An example is that we were taken to a coffee plantation. There was no tour, no explanation of anything - just dropped off at the gift shop and then returned to the bus. Fortunately we had already been to another plantation and had toured and learned. The macadamia nut farm was closed, but we were able to sample and purchase. Again, no information provided. On another note, our tour operator (Jan) was amazing with history, tales, and information along the way and it truly was the best way to see the entire island in one day. more
Great overall review of island. Bus is comfortable and driver is extremely knowledgable!!!!! Tour is well planned and went quick...ly. Good start to a week on the Big Island!!!! more
Tour offers very good overview of the island; allowing first time visitors to plan week...recommend taking tour first or second da...y on the island more
We enjoyed our trip.
Saw lots of places and wonderful things. Ric was informative and easy to listen to.
Great tour, our tour guide John was very informative & knowledgeable. Lava trails around island very impressive. Be prepared f...or a long day it is a true 12hr round trip. Hawaii activities were great everything I booked worked out well and all tours collected us when & where they said they would. more
Be prepared for a long day.... but GREAT way to see the whole Island and stop and take wonderful pics. Not for little kids. You ...are gone for over 12 hours. & Please bring a jacket as requested.
This completed us enjoying our journey of the Big Island as we also booked through Veltra: Helicopter, Submarine, & Ziplining.... Do them all!!! more

The tour dude (Hilary) did a good job of making the entire tour fly-by. He did a great job of intertwining stories from the past (...fiction and non-fiction) with those of more modern times. It was amazing that he was able to get 2-3 stories going and come back to each and every single one of them. It's like watching a TV show or movie that focuses on different/stories and characters and having closure with each one.
Hilary assured us that all of the stops were mainly to use the facilities, and that this particular trip was not a shopping tour. Overall I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get a general layout of the land of Hawaii (Big Island). more
Very good idea of the area as an overview. Would like to have seen more of Hilo-could leave out candy factory to see more of commu...nity. Realize time short to see so much in 12 hours . Overall needs to be an overnight stop in Hilo to see more . Missed the entire centre of island more
My wife and I took this tour from our condo in Kailua-Kona. It is truly an all day tour (Nearly 12 hours in total). Our driver/tou...r guide, "Cousin" Greg, was excellent. He was informative, funny and very accommodating. I won't bore you with all the places we visited; the other reviewers cover that very well. But I will say that we explored all 270 miles of the island, saw many interesting and beautiful spots and never felt that we were rushed or shortchanged. In fact, Greg added a few locations that he thought our group would particularly enjoy. I only had one negative which kept this review from being 5 Star. Grey Line took out a stop at an orchid farm yet it still appeared on their website. While I can understand that, with everything else included in the tour, you either would not have sufficient time to see the orchids or that it would diminish your enjoyment of other spots, my wife and I hoped it would have been included. If you are into orchids, you should plan a day trip on your own into Volcano to see it yourself. That being said, I fully recommend this tour because it is fun, enjoyable, informative and a bargain for what you get out of it. And if you are lucky enough to get "Cousin" Greg, tell him I said Mahalo for a great day more
My husband and I had a great time seeing the entire Big Island without having to do the driving or looking at a map. Rick was a fa...ntastic tour guide with lots of interesting information and fun facts...plus the ride was smooth and he kept us on schedule so we could get to everything as planned. Now we know what thing we want to do and where to stop when we come back on a longer trip! The only recommendation we have is to perhaps look at a new place to stop for lunch. It wasn't very good, and they forgot my husband's meal altogether. When we reminded them, they apologized but didn't have it ready until it was time to leave and he had to take it "to go". They didn't even offer to discount the bill...pretty pricey for something that you almost didn't get to enjoy. All in all, it was a great day and an awesome tour though! more
It was nice at first to see that we were being picked up in a motor coach versus a minibus as we were tight in a minibus the day b...efore and the coach had elevated views but with the larger bus, the driver couldn't hear my questions nor my responses to his questions to us. The tour was as expected. The guide was very knowledgable about the island and the stops were appropriate in length. For those looking for an overview of the big island this is the tour for you. more
Our tour guide (Cousin Greg) took us on a tour around the big island and managed to squeeze in a couple of extra stops. Highlight ...was Kilauea crater, but many other great sights along the way including the Black Sand beach. Hilo was a bit disappointing, we were expecting a sleepy little village, but it was anything but that. If you have the time, it is worth taking the tour, but make sure you don't do it on a day when the cruise ship is in port. more
Great trip is best to do the day after arriving. It's long so i wouldn't recommend it for children. It's a nice way... to see the big island in a day. more
Really enjoyed the tour...would recommend to anyone visiting Big Island. The only minus point for me were the visits to retail out...lets. more
First, they allowed us to do this tour one day before the day it was booked, because of the weather, and that was great.
An...d then, the whole day was perfect. We had a very kind driver. I just wish to stay longer at the Volcanoes National Park. more
Our tour guide had a funny sense of humor and was entertaining throughout the whole day. We enjoyed getting a lay of the land on t...his tour because it saved us from having to search and find places like the waterfall, the macadamia place and the coffee farm that were a little off from the main roads. The best part of the trip was hearing all the history of the island and all the stories!!! Our lunch stop was nice, but we had to wait a little bit for the food.. so we were rushed to eat and get back to the bus. We did this tour at the beginning of our week, so we weren't as anxious the rest of the week to try and see everything. It was nice having someone just show us around since it was our first time on the Big Island. I would recommend this for any first time visitors, especially since they pick you up from your hotel in the morning! more

My husband and I were on our first trip to Hawaii and decided to see the island by tour. This trip was just perfect for that. Our ...tour guide was great. He knew just about everything there was to know about the island and was able to answer all questions that anyone had. We went to a black sand beach that was just beautiful. Also a waterfall that was great. The volcano was interesting, and the lunch was delicious and a whole lot more than most people can eat. I do agree with another poster that said that it was a little commercial. You don't have to buy anything but you do go to a few places wanting to sell. Also, it was long. Nothing they can do about the size of the island, but as fun as it was, you were ready for it to be over. All in all I would do it again. more
I booked this trip 2 days prior and the booking experience was easy. I looked online and then I called with a few questions which ...were answered quickly. We had to have an early start as the hotel pick up was at 6:15 am, but Bill was very nice and was there on time. After stopping at more hotels in the Waikoloa Village area we were headed to Kailua kona and got in the big bus. The highlights of the tour were the volcano, the lava tube and the black sand beach. Too bad we couldn't see the turtles at the black sand beach as it was a calm day and they were in the ocean feeding, but we saw them in the water getting air. The volcano is impressive indeed and the view is spectacular. The Jaggar Museum is awesome as one can understand how everything happens deep down.
We were lucky enough to have Haka as our guide driver. He was amazing and told us lots of interesting stories. He treated us as his "Ohana" and even sang to us a couple of Hawaiian songs.
We were dropped off after 12 hours and felt that it was a good overall experience. As this is our first time to the Big Island we have now a good understanding of what to do/see next time.
Mahalo Haka! more
This trip allows a nice general view of the Island, anyway the first half of the tour is more interesting (till volcano) than the... second part. The bus driver was very nice and explained us a lot of interesting things about the Island. The two stops at Macadamia factory and chocolate factory were not interesting at our eyes. The volcanic sand beach and volcano view were really nice. Particularly the volcanic beach was really impressive with a great constrast of colours, where the black sand was overlapped by green plants. Unfortunately we could not see any turtle due to the fact that they are used to go on the beach during afternoon. In conclusion, we greatly reccomand this tour for a general and relatively quick view of Big Island especially if your don't plan to rent a car. more
This tour s a great way to get an overview of the big island. The content is good, maybe a few too many 'souvenir' stop...s, but overall a very good tour. Our guide was very personable, and very knowledgable. He gave a constant commentary of the history of the island, geology, and flora. The stop at Volcanoes National Park was a highlight, would have enjoyed more time there. One suggestion, bottled water on the bus would be nice. more
The tour guide was knowledgable. He knew about the developing history of Big Island and the current housing/ land pricing as well.... This tour is a great way to go on main attraction on Big Island. more
First time visitor
our driver was lovely and did some detours to show us more due to the small size of our group.
was already at the pick up p...oint at the hotel in the morning - we were 10 mins early ourselves ~!
was a very pleasure day tour :) more
It was good to visit several places in a day, to feel the big island.
The driver know many things and tell a lot
If he can get off the bus and go with us , it would be goo...d.
Lucky, the weather is nice and i can see the turtles more
The sights of Hawaii are beautiful but the driver skipped every scenic photo opportunity. Spent too much time in stores. We don’t ...need to know about the driver’s marital problems either. Needs to be more professional. more
More time was wasted in visiting stores. I booked this tour to see natural beauty and not stores. Very less time was allocated to ...see natural beauty. more
The tour was okay but the weather was rainy that day so it made it hard to fully enjoy the tour.
Some points that this tour covered were excellent, like the Black Sand Beach, Volcano National Park, Thurston Lava Tube and Rainbo...w Falls. Other stops like the chocolate factory,Nut Factory, Orchid Farms were useless. Instead of covering these, they should have covered some other popular destinations, that would have made it perfect tour with 5 Stars. Overall average tour. more
John our driver was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable about the Island and extremely helpful. I was a little disappointed in ...the tour itself. We took this tour 15 years ago with the same tour company and felt this time there was too much stopping at commercial venues and would have liked a few more scenic stops included where we were not expected or encouraged to always "buy" something. We took the tour so our friends (first time visitors) would get an overview of the layout of the Big Island and what it had to offer and don't feel that is what we received. more

As my title says, this is a great way to see the island in 1 day and hear some great history, geography, etc of the Big Island, ho...wever, as my review will lay out, needed more real stops at real places. Our bus driver Sal was excellent and really did a great job keeping us entertained and informed the entire day.
As for the trip, here goes. Pick-up was prompt at 7AM in front of my hotel Uncle Billy's. We made a few more stops to pick some more people up and we left with pretty much a full bus.
Stop 1: Kona Coffee place just south of Kailua. This is tourist trap #1. Yes there are free samples, but I assume the tour company gets kick backs from all these places to take us here and drop us off for 30 minutes. I took advantage of the free samples and went and took some pictures. I saw some people drop $200 plus.
Stop 2: Black Beach, after about a 45 minutes drive, we ended up at Black Beach, we saw a few turtles in the water and this really was a great scenic place to stop at, exactly what I was looking for.
Stop 3: Lunch at Volcano Cafe, nice place, adequate food, wish the price of lunch was just included in the tour price.
Stops 4-6: Volcano National Park, we stopped at the museum, the Lava Tube, and another lookout here. Were onsite for about 90 minutes all in total, great time, great pictures, great museum.
Stop 7: Hilo Candies, tourist trap #2, enough said, 30 minutes wasted.
Stop 8: Rainbow Falls, excellent stop, great path up to the top of the falls, great scenery, got some great pictures of the falls.
Stop 9: Hamakua Macadamia Nut Farm, Tourist Trap #3, enough said. Its near nothing so you cannot escape for pictures or even a bar to have a beer, which is needed after the almost 2 hour bus drive with no stops from Rainbow falls to here.
Drop off was back just before 7PM. All in all, it was a good day (long), Sal our driver was excellent, but if I wanted candy, coffee, or nuts, I would go on my own, not book a tour. more
This Trip is for those who want to see as much as possible in 1 day.The bus stops for 20 - 30 minute at places, or sometimes just ...passes by places so you can see everything in half a day. A lot of Beautiful pictures, However, its not easy being on a bus for 11 hours and people do end up falling asleep and missing a lot of the scenery.
For a first timer to Big Island, This Trip was not for me. You cannot get the feel of the culture and truly have time to appreciate the many beauties that Big Island offers. Due to more time spent on the bus, I wish I did this on my own. I just felt constantly rushed to get on the bus.. We had more time at shops(Hawaiian Candies Shop, Macadamia nut factory, Coffee farms) then actual historic places like the Black sand beach or Volcanoes. I don't mind going to the origins of things that are made from the Big Island, however, since this is a tour, then someone should at least someone describe the origins of how these shops/farms/whatever it may be were made. But you are literally just dropped off for 30 minutes at each of the stores to buy something..
Also, Tour states it will end at 6:30pm but it ended at 5:00pm.
Overall, I would not recommend this Tour to a friend or family. You just feel so exhausted by the end of the day due to the long hours on the bus. more
You can tell they get paid by the retail places they stop at. We weren't allowed much time at scenic places we stopped at but... when we stopped at a chocolate factory or the coffee shop or the macadamia nut factory we had plenty of time to "shop". We didn't take this tour to shop. We took this tour to see the island, all the places were interesting but when you have 30 minutes at the candy store and only 15 minutes at Rainbow Falls (and we were told to use the restrooms at the falls cuz their won't be bathrooms for awhile) that's obvious they are getting a kick back from the candy store. Also our bus has a bathroom but he said we weren't allowed to use it because it hasn't been cleaned from the event from the prior weekend. I think someone's being lazy and not doing their job by cleaning the restrooms. It's ashame, they messed up overall in my opinion. more
We took this tour with Polynesian tours in 2008 in a smaller van and had a such a great time that we decided to take it again so t...hat our son could enjoy it. We specifically reserved the tour again this year in a smaller van. We have taken tours in the larger buses and they can not make all the stops the smaller van can due to their size. Additionally, it takes forever to get everyone on and off the bus. This takes away from your time at stops. We were very disappointed when we were picked up with a full size bus which had 52 people on board. Stops we did make were limited to 5,15-30 minutes, except for lunch 1hr, which is not enough time to see anything. We didn't even get off the bus for some 5min stops. We also had people on board that had flown in from other islands and had to be back to the airport for their return flight. When the tour got behind, time-wise, one stop was eliminated. Overall we were very disappointed with the tour this year and would not recommend it unless you ca more
We would not recommend this tour - too many shopping areas and not enough history or unique stops. Our driver was okay but not gr...eat - and for a 12 hour costly trip, I expect at least good. more
Driver John Mack first invited everyone to ask questions, then at our first stop told ME to tell my HUSBAND that he and I had to s...top asking questions because we were "disrupting the tour"! We were afraid he might pull the bus over in the middle of *nowhere* and kick us off at the side of the road. Why was he such a coward that he wouldn't address his concerns to my husband himself? Plus his jokes were really lame.
I called the tour company the day after our tour and was told to fill out this review, which suggests to me that they took no action on my complaint. Got a bad impression of Polynesian Adventure Tours, I must admit.
The tour would have been much better if rain ponchos had been provided the way other tours provide rain ponchos.
BTW, this review form would not allow submission unless I recommended this activity to someone, and they didn't have "Nobody" or "Senile Old People" listed. more
