What To Expect
This tour will give you an opportunity to experience historical Japan. Our adventure starts with a ride on a shinkansen for Nagoya where we will be transferred to a limited express for the ancient and tranquil city of Takayama.
Visit popular sightseeing spots around the center of the Japanese archipelago. Enjoy seeing the traditional landscapes of Japan. This guided tour visits some areas which would be difficult to see on your own, so participate worry-free!
Pick-up Service From hotels in Kyoto City to New Miyako Hotel
10:00 - Depart from New Miyako Hotel. Walk to Kyoto Station
Head to Nagoya Station from Kyoto Station via Nozomi, Hikari or Kodama Shinkansen. Please note that no stop will be made for lunch on Day 1 of the tour. Participants will eat lunch on board the train, so purchasing something to eat before departure is recommended.
Your guide will meet participants at Nagoya Station. From Nagoya Station, board the JR Limited Express train to Takayama Station (150 min).
14:00 - 17:00 - Disembark at Takayama Station and enjoy sightseeing around Takayama City on foot.
Yatai Kaikan (Takayama Festival Floats Exhibition Hall) (30 min) - This popular facility displays some of the colorfully decorated festival floats used in the famous Takayama Festival. Enjoy seeing the many intricately made floats.
Kusakabe Heritage House (20 min) - Enjoy a visit to this historical Japanese-style townhouse and view a range of exquisite folk art and traditional handicrafts.
Kami-Sannomachi (30 min) - Located in Takayama's old quarter, this street is lined with Edo period buildings, and provides visitors a glimpse into the past.
08:30 - Depart from Hida Hotel Plaza.
Takayama Morning Market (40 min) - Enjoy walking around the bustling Takayama Morning Market, where a wide array of local specialties and other products are available.
Shirakawago Observatory (15 min) - Enjoy an elevated view of the World Heritage-registered thatch-roofed village of Shirakawago. Great for photography!
Wada Residence (traditional thatch-roofed farmhouse) (60 min) - This is one of the thatch-roofed houses, also registered as a World Heritage Site. Look around and be fascinated by the culture and history of the village. If the Wada residence is closed due to snow pile-up or other reason, the tour will visit the Nagase Residence or Myozen-ji Temple.
Lunch (45 min) - Taste delicious regional cuisine dishes you can only enjoy in the countryside. Please understand that there is no vegetarian option available for lunch at Shirakawago.
From Shirakawago to Kanazawa (75 min) - From Shirakawago, head to Kanazawa by bus or expressway bus. A public expressway bus or a charter bus may be used for transfers between Nagoya and Takayama and between Takayama and Kanazawa.
08:30 - 09:00 - Depart from Hotel in Kanazawa City
Nomura Residence, Nagamachi Samurai District (40 min) - Visit a former residence of a samurai family from the Kaga Domain. Admire the traditional architecture and gaze at the beautiful Japanese garden.
Kenrokuen Garden (60 min) - This beautiful garden is considered one of the top three Japanese gardens. It offers amazing seasonal views all year round.
Higashi Chaya–gai (40 min) - Wooden-latticed exteriors of teahouses line both sides of the stone-paved street here where something from the Edo period still lingers in the air. This area is an Important Traditional Building Preservation District.
Hakuza Honten (30 min) - Feel free to purchase handicrafts, accessories, cosmetics and other items made with gold leaf.
16:30 - 18:00 - A drop-off service by taxi to major hotels in Kyoto city is available.

Children 5 years old and below are free of charge, provided they sit on an adult's lap. If they need a seat, they will be charged (child rates).
We recommend that you prepare casual clothes and comfortable shoes for the walking tour on the first day. You are advised to bring an overcoat or any warm clothes during the months of October to February.
