What To Expect
The Pachacamac sanctuary was a ceremonial center in the early 5th Century, and grew to be one of the most important religious complexes in Pre-Columbian history. Built with adobe, this temple dedicated to worship of the sun has a magnificent view of the sea and Lurin River Valley. The Incas took occupied the site after defeating the local Yschma civilization. It is a pilgrimage site of ancient Peruvian cultures for its famed oracle, and is still flocked to my millions of people from different cultures today.
At least 17 pyramids have been uncovered, the most famous of which are the Moche Temple of the Sun and Moon. These pyramids have traces of the many diverse civilizations that inhabited Peru even before the Incas arrived. Other temples include the Acllahuasi which once housed the Sun Virgins, the Palace of Taurichumbi and the Pilgrimage Plaza where people from all places paid homage to the sun.
