What To Expect
Admire what this former capital under the Balinese rajahs has to offer! We will see the Mayura Water Palace in the city center, which was built in 1744. These remains of a Balinese royal complex are set in an idyllic park with an avenue of mangosteens. We will continue on to Sweta market, the largest on Lombok. As we wander through its dim alleys, you'll see stalls spilling over with coffee bean, eggs, rice, fish, fabrics, craft, fruit and hardware. There's also a bird market nearby, where you can see various species of birds. You will have the opportunity to take a horse-drawn cart to Getap, where you can visit the blacksmiths who produce farming needs such as hand ploughs, horseshoes and traditional kitchen utensils. We will stop at the biggest supermarket in the city, which is in fact the equivalent of a department store. Our final stop will be Lombok museum, which houses exhibits on the geology, history, and culture of Lombok and Sumbawa.
