Description

Highlights

  • The London Eye: one of the most recognizable structures in the world. On a clear day from the London Eye you'll be able to see 25 miles. On all of our bike tours, you will learn some of the stories behind the landmarks. With experienced guides, combined with our ability to blend history, anecdotes, and humor, leave it to us to make sightseeing and learning fun!

  • St. Paul's Cathedral: The newest St. Paul's is the masterpiece of Sir Christopher Wren. The ground upon which it is built has been considered sacred for thousands of years. In more modern times, this is where the world mourned the loss of Sir Winston Churchill and celebrated the fairytale wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

  • Shakespeare's Globe: Have you ever used the expressions: to kill with kindness, one fell swoop, or dead as a doornail? Those and hundreds of other expressions and words are attributed to one of the greatest Brits who ever lived. In the shadows of the historically accurate recreation of the Globe Theater, learn a bit more about William Shakespeare and his impact on our 21st century lives.

  • Borough Market: A "must do" in any guide book and worth its suggested retail price, the Borough Market represents the culinary side of London, bringing in the best from the East and the West. This stop will not disappoint. We'll break for about an hour, giving you time to explore on your own, grab a snack from any number of hot food vendors, and still enjoy a pint at a local English pub with your guide.

  • Tower Bridge: One of the most recognizable bridges in the world, Tower Bridge was built nearly 60 years into the reign of Queen Victoria, and during the height of the British Empire. You will have the opportunity to take photos at its most spectacular vantage point: looking across to the Bridge and the Tower of London.

  • The Tower of London: Originally built by William the Conqueror, this World Heritage site has been used as a royal residence, prison, observatory, treasury, mint, and even a zoo. The top of the list of recognizable prisoners includes: Thomas More, Sir Walter Raleigh, Guy Fawkes, and Anne Boleyn. While it likely deserves a full day to experience, you'll get a taste of the Tower with us on this tour.

  • Trafalgar Square: Home to the National Portrait Gallery and Lord Nelson's Column. Lord Nelson was commanding the British fleet at the Battle of Trafalgar when he was killed by a French sniper. Today the square also hosts events, public gatherings, ceremonies, and festivals. It is against the law to feed the pigeons here.

  • Also see the River Thames, the Tate Modern, London Bridge, Southwark Cathedral, the HMS Belfast, the Houses of Parliament, and Big Ben.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the meeting point for the London River Thames Bike Tour?

The morning and evening tours meet directly outside Southwark Underground Station (Jubilee Line) where you will see your guide holding a sign.

Is the London River Thames Bike Tour difficult?

There is a lot of riding on the road for this tour itinerary. You must be confident on a bike.

London River Thames Bike Tour spends more time on roads than other bike tours in London (check out the Royal London Bike Tour if you want to avoid roads as this itinerary is mostly in the Royal Parks of London and away from traffic). The cycling is not intimidating or strenuous but if you are not a confident cyclist then we recommend the Royal London Bike Tour as a better option for you. Children are welcome on this tour but should be competent and confident on a bike.

What happens if it rains?

The tours run rain or shine and plenty of rain ponchos are available. The tours in the rain can be a different kind of fun and an even more fun memory! If you have a reservation and the weather is really bad, you are welcome to reschedule the tour for any other day for up to year but you must call to arrange in advance.

Do we stop for lunch on the London River Thames Bike Tour?

Yes. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays you will stop at Borough market, London's oldest and most atmospheric food market, which has a huge selection of food from around the world. There is also the opportunity to have a pint at a pub. On every other day you will have the option of cafes, a fish & chip restaurant or a pub. Lunch is not included in the tour price.

Where does the London River Thames Bike Tour end?

The tour finishes at the same place it starts.

Do we go inside the sites and attractions of London?

No, the London River Thames Bike Tour offers an overview of the sites and more about getting a feel for the city. There;s plenty of photo opportunities in front of many famous landmarks like the London Eye and Tower Bridge.

Is there a space to store bags or luggage?

There is limited space for luggage to be left in the garage, and you can strap smaller bags to the rack on the back of the bikes.

Can I supply my own bike on the London River Thames Bike Tour?

All bikes are provided but you are welcome to bring your own bicycle and will receive a discount of 10%. The insurance only covers the theft of tour bicycles, so please do bring your own lock for the lunch stop. Advise at time of booking if you intend to bring your own bike to qualify for the discount.

Do you have children's bikes?

Yes. Limited amount of children's bikes and baby seats are available. Unfortunately there are no tag-alongs available for this tour. You and your children will need to be comfortable cycling alongside traffic for this tour, so if you are at all unsure about your child's ability to cycle on the roads in London, the Royal London Bike Tour might be the better option for you because the bulk of the itinerary is designed to ride through London's Royal Parks. Please be sure to specify at time of booking.

Are helmets provided on the London River Thames Bike Tour?

Yes. You are not compelled by law to wear helmets in the UK, but we have more than enough for everyone so the choice is entirely yours.
