Highlights

  • The Houses of Parliament

The Houses of Parliament are situated along the banks of the Thames River. Home to the House of Lords and the House of Commons, at one point in history, the decisions made here directly affected one quarter of the world's population.

  • Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace has been the official London residence of the Royal Family since Queen Victoria. This 661 room palace remained the dwelling of the monarchy throughout World War II, even after being hit seven times by German air strikes. The Royal Standard flies above the building when the Queen is at home.

  • Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey was founded, according to legend, in the year 616. It is home to the crypts of some of the most famous British citizens, including a number of kings and queens, Charles Dickens and Sir Issac Newton. Additionally, all British monarchs have been crowed in the Abbey since William the Conqueror in 1066.

  • The Royal Parks

The Royal Parks in London include Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Green Park, and St. James's Park. Cycle and walking paths criss-cross each of these gardens and offer a refuge from traffic in the middle of the city. Music festivals, horseback riding, and paddle boats are found on a daily basis.

  • Big Ben

Big Ben actually refers to the 13 ton bell within the clock tower. London first heard the chimes on May 31, 1859. Today Big Ben and the clock tower are recognized around the world as a symbol of London.

  • Kensington Palace

Kensington Palace was first occupied by William III in the seventeenth century and remains to this day an official royal residence. Princess Diana lived here until her death in 1997.

  • Albert Memorial

The Albert Memorial is situated in Kensington Gardens directly to the north of the Royal Albert Hall. It was commissioned by Queen Victoria in memory of her beloved husband, Prince Albert who died of typhoid in 1861.

  • Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square is home to the National Portrait Gallery and Lord Nelson's Column. Lord Nelson was commanding the British fleet at the Battle of Trafalgar when he was killed by a French sniper. Today the square also hosts events, public gatherings, ceremonies, and festivals. It is against the law to feed the pigeons here.

  • Also see St. James Park, Hyde Park Corner, the Cabinet War Rooms, Kensington Gardens, and the Princess Di Memorial. We shall have a snack, pint, coffee break at Trafalgar Square.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Royal London Bike Tour run all year round?

Yes. Tours run on a reduced schedule from November to March at 11am Thursdays to Mondays, inclusive.

Where is the meeting point for the Royal London Bike Tour?

Directly outside Queensway tube station, which is on the central line (the red line cutting across the map from east to west). 15 minutes before the start of the tour, one of the tour guides will be standing by the red phone boxes holding a sign.

Is the Royal London Bike Tour difficult?

No. Most of the time is spent on bike lanes within the Royal Parks. There is a bit of road riding and a few crossings so a basic level of cycling proficiency is required.

What happens if it rains?

Tours run rain or shine and have plenty of rain ponchos. Tours in the rain can be a different kind of fun and an even more fun memory! If you have a reservation and the weather is really bad, you are welcome to reschedule the tour for any other day for up to year. You must call to arrange in advance.

Does the Royal London Bike Tour include a stop for lunch?

Yes. You will usually stop near Trafalgar Square where there are plenty of options for lunch including to join the guide at a traditional English pub. Otherwise, you may stop in St James park next to a cafe.

Where does the Royal London Bike Tour end?

The tours finish at the same place they start.

Can I go inside the London sites and attractions visited?

No, the bike tours are an overview of the London sites and attractions and more about getting a feel for the city.

Will we be able to take photos of the London sites visited?

Yes. There will be a chance to take many photos at the designated stops during your Royal London Bike Tour.

Is there a space to store bags or luggage?

Yes. You are welcome to leave bags, luggage or unwanted family members in the garages. Someone is usually in the office and it will be locked up if they have to leave. While we have never had a single case of theft or loss of items, you do leave them at your own risk. You can strap smaller bags to the rack on the back of the bikes too!

Can I supply my own bike on the Royal London Bike Tour?

All bikes are provided but you are welcome to bring your own bicycle and will receive a discount of 10%. The insurance only covers the theft of tour bicycles, so please do bring your own lock for the lunch stop. Advise at time of booking if you intend to bring your own bike to qualify for the discount.

Do you have children's bikes?

Yes. Limited amount of children's bikes and baby seats are available. Unfortunately there are no tag-alongs available for this tour. You and your children will need to be comfortable cycling alongside traffic for this tour, so if you are at all unsure about your child's ability to cycle on the roads in London. The Royal London Bike Tour is the best option for you because the bulk of the itinerary is designed to ride through London's Royal Parks. Please be sure to specify at time of booking.

Are helmets provided on the London Royal Bike Tour?

Yes. You are not compelled by law to wear helmets in the UK, but we have more than enough for everyone so the choice is entirely yours.
