Hatshepsut was the only woman crowned Pharaoh. But her stepson so hated her that when she died he defaced most statues that bore her image. Her temple though has a dramatic intensity, set in front of sheer limestone cliffs, defined by columned terraces. The tomb is also known as Deir Al-Bahri.
