What To Expect
Day 1 MADABA - PETRA
After pick-up, we will depart for the ancient city of Petra located in Wadi Musa. Petra is one of Jordan's national treasures and by far its best known tourist attraction. Petra is the legacy of the Nabateans, an industrious Arab people who settled in southern Jordan more than 2,000 years ago.
Admired then for its refined culture, massive architecture and ingenious complex of dams and water channels, Petra is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site Much of Petra's appeal comes from its spectacular setting deep inside a narrow desert gorge. The site is accessed by walking through a kilometer long chasm (or Siq), the walls of which soar 200 meters upwards.
Continuing our trek through Petra we'll explore chunks of this fantastic once-lost city which is full of tombs, temples, an impressive amphitheater and a Roman colonnaded street. The intrepid can ascend, either on foot or by donkey, the hundreds of rock-cut steps to Ad-Deir.
Better known as the Monastery, Ad-Deir has a similar facade to that of the Treasury, but is far bigger and the views from the nearby cliff-tops are awesome.
Evening departure to Wadi Rum. At Wadi Rum, enjoy a magical evening of star gazing, dinner and entertainment!
Day 2 WADI RUM - MADABA
In the morning, we will transfer to Wadi Rum and explore the desert by jeep for 4 hours. This is a stupendous, timeless place, virtually untouched by humanity and its destructive forces. Here, it is the weather and winds that have carved the imposing, towering skyscrapers, so elegantly described by T.E. Lawrence as "vast, echoing and God-like."
We will begin our day with a 4-hour jeep tour, visit Nabataen inscriptions, Lawrence's Cave and Rock Bridge. We will also enjoy some of the most beautiful sand dunes, sunrises and sunsets in the world.
Depart for Aqaba to enjoy a sunset boat cruise, some snorkeling and dinner before returning back to Madaba.
