What To Expect
A tour of Spain has never been this opulent. This tour will deviate from the neatly structured palaces you are accustomed to seeing in Europe, with a visit to the Alhambra, a superbly preserved site of Mudejar architecture that survived the Reconquista. You will have to see how intricately it is decorated to believe it! The walls and columns are covered with beautiful tilework and mosaics, with fine carvings of unparalleled artistry. it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architectural beauty and significance to the Moorish heritage of Spain.
See the imposing Palace of Charles the V, proudly erected near the site of the Alhambra to establish the triumph of Christianity over Islam. The palace was constructed to meet the needs of the Royal family, giving it an infamous reputation as an imposing and grandiose structure inspired by the Roman style. Its creator Pedro Machuca, an expert of the Renaissance, built it to resemble a Roman Colosseum, with its massive circular structure and octagonal chapel inside.
Retreat from the harsh realities of the world in the Generalife gardens, a paradise of lush greenery made for the Moorish kings. Surprise after surprise awaits you as you wander deeper and deeper into its mazelike structure, with fountains, flower beds, ponds, statues and secret meeting places that are a delight for the eyes and the soul.
Afterwards, embark on a train tour to the city center of Granada and its historical sites, such as the Granada cathedral and the Royal Chapel where the Catholic Monarchs that instigated the Reconquista were laid to rest. See the Forest of Alhambra, the Puerta de la Justicia, the Puerta de Granada, and admire the gorgeous sunset over the city from the Mirador de San Nicolas.
Have a bite to eat in one of Granada's numerous quaint cafes, shop for gifts to bring home to your loved ones and promenade around the plazas when you are given free time to walk around the city center. The train will go back to the Alhambra for the return trip.
