Are you interested in exploring a well-preserved traditional Antioquian city and getting to know more about Colombian and especially Antioquian culture in combination with stunning views? Then this is the perfect tour for you. Santa Fe de Antioquia is the region's oldest settlement founded in 1541, and known as one of the cities that formed Colombia's cities as we know them today.

En route from Medellín to Santa Fe de Antioquia we can use our time of approximately 1.5 hours to relax and get to know the lush green environment Antioquia has to offer.

Arriving at the main square we'll get a first impression of Antioquia's former capital. Walking past the fountain and street vendors selling their goods, we make our way through traditional cobblestone streets lined with whitewashed houses to visit the Juan de Corral Museum and other colonial style houses as well as picturesque churches. Feeling hungry after walking through the town we dig in as we have lunch at a typical Colombian restaurant.

After savoring our meal we'll hop back on the car to drive the short distance to the Puente de Occidente, a suspension bridge called 'Bridge of the West' because it is located in the west of Antioquia. When the bridge was finished in 1895 after 108 years of construction, it was considered the seventh largest suspension bridge worldwide and was declared a National Monument of Colombia later in 1978. With its impressive length of 291 m (955 ft.) and a structural system similar to the one used in the Brooklyn Bridge it's definitely worth a visit.

Arriving at the Puente de Occidente, first we'll have a look at it from afar before we walk over the bridge and capture magnificent panoramas of the surrounding scenery. Take in the immense size of the Cauca River a last time before we will be back on the road and return to Medellín.
