About Milan The Basilica of Santa Maria Delle Grazie

A World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan is famous thanks to the fact of harboring one of the works of finest art world: Last Supper Leonardo da Vinci. The fresco is not for the religious community but is now part. The monastery itself is nevertheless exciting to see an architectural point of view thanks to the claw of Bramante

The church, built in Lombard gothic style by Guiniforte Solari between 1463-1482, is designed with three aisles and seven spans, supported by columns of granite and by the walls of the chapels. The interior is 63 m long and 30 m wide including the chapels, and 14,40 m high. The decorations and the figures of the saints covering the three aisles and the pillars of the chapels are attributed to various masters of the Lombard school such as Butinone, Zenale, Montorfano and Bergognone. Solari’s church opens itself on the bright Bramante’s tribune and, on the left, into the Virgin Mary’s chapel. The Last Supper (in Italian L'Ultima Cena or Il Cenacolo) is 15th century mural painting in Milan created by Leonardo da Vinci for his patron Duke Ludovico Sforza. It represents the scene of the last supper from the final days of Jesus narrated in the Gospel of John 13:21, when Jesus announces that one of his Twelve Apostles would betray him. The Last Supper measures 460 x 880 centimeters (15 feet x 29 ft) and covers the back wall of the dining hall at Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. Leonardo started to paint The Last Supper in 1495 and completed it in 1498, as witnesse by Luca Pacioli who, on February 4th 1498 writes of it as a finished work.
