What To Expect
Discover the glorious abode of Lord Shiva as you visit the magnificent Elephanta caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site! The Elephanta Caves are a complex of ancient cave temples hewn out of solid rock and inspired by Shaivism, one of the four most widely followed sects of Hinduism.
A chauffeur will pick you up from your hotel and drop you off at the Gateway of India, the famous monument in Mumbai adorned with four turrets and intricate latticework carved into yellow basalt stone. The structure is a magnificent display of Muslim and Hindu architecture. You will then continue by ferry to the picturesque Elephanta Island.
You can either walk or take the Toy Train to the temples upon reaching the island. Climb nearly 120 steps to reach the temple's entrance or go for a pony ride*. The Elephanta cave complex houses elaborate rock cut temples which date back to the 5th century. Marvel at carefully chiseled corridors, chambers, pillars and sculptures as you explore the ancient temple.
You'll find various sculpted images of Lord Shiva throughout the entire complex. The carved figures and the intricately chiseled temples display a wonderful balance of beauty, peace and solitude.
After the tour, you will travel back to the Gateway of India pier by ferry where a chauffeur will drive you back to your hotel.
