What To Expect
Riding a Segway is intuitive and easy to learn. Once you're comfortable on the machines we'll move away from just the pedestrian old-city sights in order explore Munich from its modest beginnings to the contemporary city it is today. You'll not only have a great time riding the Segways, but also see and understand more of what makes this city so unique.
Our knowledgeable guides will discuss with you, among other topics:
Humble Beginnings: At the hands of the royal Wittelsbach dynasty, Munich grew from salt trading post to regional power. Along the tour we will see numerous examples of the architecture and legacies left behind by the longest dynasty to ever rule.
Munich as birthplace of Nazi movement: From the creation of the Nazi party through Hitler's failed Bier Hall Putsch to the establishment of the party headquarters once the Nazis gained power, we will explain Munich's role during Germany's darkest hour.
Biergardens, Bratwurst and Lederhosen: While Munich doesn't disappoint with its traditional flare, we will show you a full picture of the high-tech, high-fashion Bavarian capital.
Some of the tour sights include:
Karlsplatz: Home of the Karls Gate and once Europe's busiest traffic areas.
Königsplatz: Impressive showcase of Ludwig I's endeavors to transform Munich into the "Athens on the Isar". The former National Socialist HQ and site of the signing of the Munich Accords in 1938 with Hitler's Germany is adjacent.
Pinakotheken: From the pre-renaissance to postmodern, these world-class museums have something for every taste.
Odeonsplatz: Beneath the illustrious Feldhernhalle and magnificent Theatinerkirche lies part of Munich's darker past: Hitler's failed Beer Hall Putsch ended here.
Residenz: Former royal residence with the adjacent elegant National Theater.
Hofgarten: Royal gardens flanked by the Bavarian State Chancellery.
Englischer Garten: One of Europe's largest municipal parks, this park and its beer gardens have become symbols of the city.
Eisbach Surfers: Bizarre, tolerated, and not-to-be-missed are the surfers riding the waves in the Englischer Garten.
Haus der Kunst: Originally designed to display art approved by the Nazis, this museum now exhibits art they would have deemed degenerate.
Angel of Peace: Monument to celebrate twenty-five years of peace after German unification.
Maximilianeum: grandiose in scale, it's home to Bavaria's parliament and a school for the gifted.
Deutsches Museum: Germany's first and largest technical museum, its hands-on exhibits are fun and exciting for the whole family.
Gärtnerplatz: Munich's hip and liberal side shine in Munich's trendiest area.
Viktualienmarkt: time stands still in Munich's gem of a farmers' market.
All tours start with a comprehensive introduction to the Segway to make sure you're confident riding this state-of-the-art machine. Once the tour is underway, we stop every few hundred meters to discuss the sites and history. Along the way we'll also stop for lunch/snack, which is a great time to get insider tips from your native English-speaking guide on how to make the most of your stay in Munich.
With a limited number of participants, you'll get a private experience, which also makes our exclusive tours a great value. Don't miss what' sure to be a highlight of your entire vacation.
