Experience Kyoto, Japan's most culturally important city. Visit Tokugawa era shogun's residence, Nijo Castle, before marveling at the gold-leaf covered Golden Pavilion and strolling through the exquisite garden surrounding it. Visit Kyoto Imperial Palace and watch traditional artisans work their craft at the Kyoto Handicraft Center. Walk through Sanjusangendo Temple, Japan's longest wooden structure. Stroll along a quaint lane lined with specialty shops up to Kiyomizudera Temple for a sweeping view of the city. See Heian Jingu Shrine, a partial replica of the Imperial Palace.


  • 07:10 Assemble at Nagoya Marriott Associa Hotel (2nd floor lobby). Proceed to Nagoya Station on foot.

  • 07:30 to 08:00 Board a Nozomi Shinkansen (bullet train) to Kyoto (35 minutes). Assembly at New Miyako Hotel and visit the following by motorcoach.

  • Nijo Castle (50 minutes)

The Kyoto residence of the Tokugawa Shogun, the main keep of which was built in 1603, is noted for the contrast of its solemn exterior and gorgeous interiors.

  • Kinkakuji Temple(45 minutes)

This temple is renowned for its beautiful Japanese garden and stunning Golden Pavilion.

  • Kyoto Imperial Palace(40 minutes)

This exclusive compound can only be accessed as part of an organized tour group.

  • Lunch Enjoy a buffet lunch.

  • Heian Jingu Shrine(40 minutes)

Graceful, historical court life is reflected in this brightly colored shrine with its vermilion pillars and green roof, as well as its enchanting inner gardens and ponds.

  • Sanjusangendo(30 minutes)

This long, wood-construction hall houses 1,001 statues of the Buddhist deity Kannon that date back to the 13th century.

  • Kiyomizu Temple(60 minutes)

This famous, hill-top temple offers a sweeping view of the old capital from its towering wooden veranda. After, return to Kyoto Station by motorcoach.

  • 18:20 to 18:50 Board a Hikari or Nozomi Shinkansen to Nagoya (40 minutes).

  • 18:50 to 19:20 Tour disbands at Nagoya Station.

  • When Nijo Castle is closed we will visit Ryoanji Temple instead.

  • *The Kyoto Imperial Palace is closed every Monday (Tuesday if Monday is a National Holiday), on 28 December 2016 to 4 January 2017 and whenever there is an Imperial Household event. On these days, tour will visit Kitano Tenmangu Shrine instead.
