What To Expect
The tour begins at the Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station where you'll board the train at 21:30. You will be served dinner as we continue to the fascinating city of Jaipur.
Enjoy a delicious breakfast on board at 08:00 before we arrive in Jaipur at approximately 10:00. We'll visit the Jaigarh Fort, the most spectacular of three-hilltop forts that overlook the city. We'll proceed to the City Palace for an exciting Elephant Polo Match followed by lunch. We then visit the Sawai Man Singh II Museum within the City Palace Complex after lunch. The museum showcases a brilliant collection of Royal artifacts, handicrafts and interesting textiles such as silk saris, Pashmina shawls and embroideries. You will also have the opportunity to visit a local center dedicated to polishing and cutting precious stones. We'll return to the train at around 16:00 to relax. Alternatively, you will have the option to do other activities such as enjoy a spa at a deluxe hotel, go on a private shopping tour, play golf at the Rambagh Golf Club or visit the Jantar Mantar, the Hawa Mahal and the Birla Temple. Dinner will be served on board at 20:00. The train then leaves for Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore) at 21:30.
An exciting Game Drive to the Ranthambore National Park awaits you at 06:30. See a variety of wildlife in the area such as Tigers, Leopards, Indian foxes, Sambar Deers and more! We'll return to the comfort of our train at 09:30 where you can enjoy a lovely brunch as we continue to the magnificent ancient city of Fatehpur Sikri or "The City of Victory" - A UNESCO World Heritage Site! The city was built during the second half of the 16th century by Emperor Akbar and includes one of the largest mosques in India - the Jama Masjid. See the fine examples of Mughal architecture, which dates back to 400 years. Dinner will be served on board at 20:00.
We'll proceed to the famous Taj Mahal upon arrival in Agra at 07:00. This architectural wonder was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It took 22,000 workmen and 22 years to finish the amazing palace. Enjoy a champagne breakfast at Taj Khema at 09:45 and have an opportunity to witness Pietra Dura Marble Inlay Work before we continue to Gwalior. This incredible decorative art is the same work that adorns the Taj Mahal and other Mughal monuments. Lunch will be served on board before we head to the Gwalior Fort, an 8th-century hill fort near Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. We will also visit the Sas Bahu Temple and the Jain Caves, which was constructed between the 9th and 11th century. Alternatively, you will have the option to enjoy a spa at Hotel Usha Kiran Palace. We continue to the beautiful Jai Vilas Palace Museum where you can enjoy delicious Indian Hi Tea.
After having breakfast on board, we proceed to Jhansi at 07:30, a historic city of Northern India. Here we'll visit the magnificent Orchha Fort Complex. We return to the train at 10:00 and have lunch on board before we head to Khajuraho. We'll visit the famous archeological site of the Khajuraho Temples, also referred to as the Kamasutra Temples. We continue to Kandariya Shilpgram at 18:00 to enjoy Indian Dances. You'll have the option to enjoy a spa at a nearby hotel. The train leaves for Varanasi at 20:45.
Varanasi, also known as Benaras, was referred to as "The Ancient City" when Lord Buddha visited it in 500 B.C., it is known as the oldest, continuously inhabited city in the world today. After breakfast, we will visit the Sarnath Ruins and Museum where you'll see a rich collection of sculptures and Buddhist Art. We will visit a silk weaving center before proceeding for lunch at the Taj Gateway Hotel. Enjoy a walking tour of the Old City before you go on a boat ride at the River Ganges. To end the night, we'll witness an Evening Aarti, which is a religious ritual of worship for Hindus. The train leaves for Lucknow at 23:00.
We arrive at Utretia Station at 08:00 and head to Lucknow after breakfast. We'll visit the historical sites of the Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Rumi Darwaza and The Residency Complex. You will have the opportunity to visit a local store for Chikankari - the famous embroidery form that originated in Lucknow before we return to the train for lunch. We proceed to the residence of Raja of Jahangirabad for a wonderful Indian Dinner. The train leaves for Delhi at 21:15.
Breakfast on board will be served before you disembark the train where services will end.
