Absolutely amazing! First time Hawaii visitor and this sunset dinner sail was by far my favorite activity. The crew members on the... ship were very friendly, food was great, and the killer sunset was to die for. Highly impressed! If you like good food, music, and nice people, book this sunset dinner sail! Overall experience is a 10/10. more
My girlfriend and I enjoyed a wonderful time on this catamaran, with some good food sitting down on nets while sailing through the... Waikiki waterfront. We didn't even go on Friday which includes the fireworks and still think it was more than worth it. Will definitely do it again if I am back in Hawaii in the future. more

This past weekend my kids and I went on the Makani Catamaran Sailing Adventure and we had a great time. As soon as we got on board... my kids were so excited. The crew of the boat gave a brief safety tutorial and as soon as they were done we were headed for sea. There was food for everyone and a bar to purchase drinks. It was such an adventure especially if you like the sun, the wind, and the waves. My kids joined some of the other guests on the net that was located at the front of the Makani, loving the cool splashes of the water as we picked up speed, while being able to see right under where they sat. The crew was so polite and friendly always checking to make sure that everyone is alright. I would definitely recommend this tour to you if you like the relaxing yet adventurous activities while being able to view the beautiful scenery of the water and land of Oahu. more
Cruising on the Makani Catamaran on the Friday Night Fireworks Sail was a breathtaking experience! After departing from Kewalo ...Basin, the crew quickly set up the sails so the vessel could glide through the water purely on wind power. It was amazing to stand on the bow of the catamaran, with just the sound of the ocean and the breeze in my ears. Normally there is that incessant growl of an engine when you are on a boat, but not on the Makani! The crew members catered to the guests wonderfully and were always available to take photos, clean up the inevitably drink spill or answer any questions that we had. There were also some very yummy pupus on board, like chicken wraps, spring rolls, pasta salad and some cookies for anyone with a sweet tooth. Rather than being confined to a table, and being served by waiters, guests are free to snack and walk meander around the catamaran as they please. Oh! I mustn't forget the drinks?the bartenders whip up some very yummy cocktails! The recomm more
My wife and I thought this cruise was the highlight of our trip to Oahu. This made my 3rd visit to the island (my wife's 1st)... and we both were amazed with this activity. We were fortunate to see whales and a dolphin in the bay! The crew was outstanding. A true value for your money. more
I took my boyfriend to the afternoon whale watching sail with Makani Kai catamaran, and he had a fantastic time. The boat is beau...tiful, and the staff was so friendly and helpful. Even though we saw about two whales, we didn't mind that. It is a little rocky when you get out there, so for those who get boat sick easily, highly recommend to take them boat sickness bills prior to boarding the boat. Overall, this is such a fantastic ride, friendly crew, beautiful boat, and very relaxing! I will go again, probably take some friends this time! more
This cruise was very relaxing and not at all over crowded. Would go again if I come back to Hawaii. They offer food, but if you ar...e a vegetarian bank on only eating the pasta salad...I ate prior to sail. more

It was quite the fun experience. From the Captain, to the first mate, to the bartender, they were all quite entertaining and they... managed to make a relaxing time very much quite enjoyable. I went with my wife and we managed to get some beautiful pictures taken of this experience. The sun sets as you are sailing along the beautiful view of Waikiki and Diamond head. I highly recommend this event for anyone who likes to just get away from it all for an evening. To top it all off, it also comes with a meal and two drinks so you have your evening off to a great start! more
The staff was great. The bartender was friendly and outgoing. The captain was awesome!! I've never been sailing before and... my wife is an avid sailor and we both enjoyed it thoroughly. The ride was smooth. Coctails were available the whole time. We saw whales and a beautiful sunset. more
We had SUCH a wonderful time aboard this catamaran! The Captain and crew were friendly and efficient, the food was good and plent...iful, the drinks were well made, and the view was just stunning! The light dinner (turkey wraps, pasta, and spring rolls with a cookie for desert) was plentiful and good quality, very fresh. The 3 free drink coupons we had were just the right amount, we didn't even need to buy more drinks. The bartender did a good job, the mixed dinks were well made. There is even a plasma TV on board with a video of underwater shots of fish if you prefer to stay below deck! The Vessel is very well kept and clean, quite comfortable, and lots of viewing space! It was a wonderful way to finish out out week in Hawaii~! The fireworks were beautiful, but short, but the view couldn't have been more lovely! more
This was an awesome activity!!! I went with my seven year old daughter and we both had a fabulous time. The sunset was AMAZING!! T...he crew and the captain were funny, polite, and extremely accomedating to the all guests on board. Before leaving the dock they went over safety tips, what food was being provide and where to find it, as well, the itenerary for the evenings trip. The fireworks from the Hilton were great! It was a nice way to wrap up the trip. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys the open water and beautiful scenery. more
We attended this activity on April 4th 2008, We were in Hawii untill April 8th 2008 and overall this was the best experience we ha...d on Oahu. From the very start of this Sail ,the Captain and Crew where terrific very helpfull and just a complete joy to be around. As a Couple it is very hard to get pictures of the two people together, Not on this adventure we actually had the bartender offer to take our pictures together for us. The meal was delicious, Weather was perfect. When we come back to Hawii I will definantly be looking up this company and doing this again We could not have anticipated just how much fun we would have on this sail. If there was one thing I had to tell you to do in Oahu it would be to go on this Sunset Sail. Thank you so much for the Truly enjoyable and relaxing adventure we look forward to seeing you in the Future. Jennifer and Marshall Albritton more
The crew members are some of the nicest people, they offer great friendly service to the passengers. They really do their best to ...please their customers. They offer some really good and original cocktails. Combined with the rocking motion of the catamaran, it is very much like riding a roller coaster! You will also get to see the beautiful sunset as well as the scenic landscapes that Hawai'i has to offer such as Diamondhead and city lights. The downside is that there are quite a bit of people so there is no privacy so i recommend this activity to families and friends. If you go at night time, don't forget to bring your jackets! Overall, its worth the price for something fun and relaxing! more
excellent sunset sail. beyond expectations with staff and food. wonderful!
this was so lovely and we got to see a mother and calf whale...off season too...highly recommend. Staff was excellent...
It was a fantastic experience. The staff was really nice and loved "high tide". The captain was funny and let you drive... the boat for a little bit. Food was really good and the bartender will be your new best friend. more

We went on the sunset cruise. Even though the sky overcast and the waters were choppy for part of the trip, we still had an amazi...ng time! Food was average but yummy, served buffet style: chicken wraps, pasta salad, spring rolls, cookies. Great, friendly, helpful crew. Good middle-ground between a fancy dinner cruise and simple booze cruise. This is the only catamaran cruise I found that actually offers food...and for about the same price as the others that only offer alcohol. Would definitely recommend! more
Crew was friendly and funny. It was a very enjoyable cruise. I highly recommend it. Very low key and relaxing.
Great experience, better then expected. Would recommend it to family and friends.
Great crew. Great boat. Sunset and fireworks were awesome. Great bartender :) would definitely recommend.
Amazing sunset and smooth ride! Loved the net seat!
We had a great time on the sunset fireworks cruise. We had a friendly crew and the food was pretty good. I would definitely reco...mmend this cruise. more
Our Makani Sunset Dinner Cruise was simply amazing!Everything about this trip was memorable-from checking in, boarding, cruising, ...and (sadly),returning to port. The wonderful and hospitable staff, delicious dinner, refreshing drinks, and the stunning sunset made this experience the best bang for your buck on the island. The evening started with us boarding the catamaran and choosing a seat next to the captains. We took photos and then assembled for a friendly, but thorough welcome by the small but mighty crew of three. We then fired up the bar and the engines and headed out on the ocean listening to a variety of island vibes. It was so picturesque- Heads bobbing, couples hugging, boat sailing, and the sun slowly going down. And did I mention a bridal shower group on the boat.!We chatted with others (local and first timers) and shared one common theme.....we were on the fun boat. We ate a delicious buffet of rice, colorful pasta salad, islandy tofu rolls, sweet glazed teriyaki chicken, beef and crunchy broccoli, mini egg rolls, and macadamia nut cookies (there was even food left over). The coolest part of the trip came with the sunset. We hung out on the catamaran (trampoline bed) chatting and feeling the breeze. We also took turns passing around our cameras for photo opps. As the sun disappeared into the horizon, we began to feel the 180 of the boat. While the cityscape was absolutely beautiful as it lit up the shoreline, we didn't want it to end. What an excellent adventure! Many thanks to that awesome crew for a lifetime reflection of what paradise really feels like! Mahalo! more
My friend and I had a really enjoyable time on the Makani Sunset Dinner Sailing cruise. Used the shuttle service that picked up r...ight at the hotel and was comfortable, convenient and the driver was professional and courteous. The check-in process was simple and easy. The ship itself was in good condition, larger size and the group was manageable, good mix of people and not overcrowded. The Captain was professional yet casual and fun along with the staff including the entertaining bartender. The drinks were fun and good and the food was also good and filling and good mix of options with more than enough for seconds. The cruise itself was a highly enjoyable great experience on the water, view of Waikiki and the Crater. The full moon over the crater was an awesome treat along with the crew keeping the boat in perfect position to watch the Friday night fireworks. They returned the boat right on time and the shuttle back was also convenient. All-in-all, it was a great experience and recommend it to others. more
This dinner cruise was very entertaining and relaxed. We came away at the end of the night thoroughly impressed. The staff on boar...d were very nice, they talked to us personally about Hawaii and what to do while we were staying. The dinner was buffet style and the food was very tasty. Be sure to take warm clothing, as it got later into the night there was a cool sea breeze. The fireworks were impressive, however even without the fireworks the dinner cruise would still be just as good. The boat was in lovely condition and fit lots of people easily. The 2 free drinks was an extra bonus! Overall, we had a lovely night out and would highly recommend as a lovely night out on the water in Honolulu. more
There really isn't any better way to see the Hawaiian sunset than cruising off Waikiki beach - with only the sound of wind wh...istling through the sails...great food and good conversations. The crew are very friendly - sharing their sailing experiences and interesting facts about the island and Pacific ocean. The captain is very personable and experienced (having raced large sailboats). He set the sails just right for a comfortable cruise and even allowed some to take a try at the helm. In addition to the great panoramic view of Waikiki and sunset we saw a sea turtle and whales. If we had more time on this trip we would do this sailing cruise again...and most definitely will the next time we're on Oahu. more
I really enjoyed the cruise. They started on time and I didn't have any issues confirming my seat through this website. I was... on their list promptly. It lasts roughly two hours and the first 15 minutes generally consists of a safety briefing before everyone gets started. The crew was very informative and they allowed you to fully walk the boat as well as take pictures while you are stirring the boat. The sunset itself was beautiful and we happen to catch a few whales while out there. Overall it was well worth the experience. It's definitely a little pricy however if you are looking for a good cruise, this should definitely be something you consider. more
My wife and were on vacation for a vow renewal after 14 years that we wanted to celebrate with amazing Oahu views. I had never hea...rd of Makani and will be sure to spread the good word to many of our friends about an overall unforgettable trip! The Makani Catamaran Sunset Dinner Cruise was 5 star all the way. The boat was amazing, the staff was incredible (polite, fun, upbeat, funny and overall engaging) the food was great and, of course, how could you beat an amazing Hawaiian sunset watching the perfect fireball dip in to the endless blue water. You always expect for the trip to be good when you pay the money to be entertained, but this trip far exceeded my expectations. Everyone wanted to lay out on the catamaran nets to watch the fireworks which is always fun. Overall, this trip was the single highlight of our week long vacation in paradise and I wouldn't have changed a thing. A++ rating for the Makani and as I stated before, we will be sure to spread the word that Makani is the #1 way to spend your night watching the fireworks over the beautiful beaches of Oahu. more
I had been looking for a nice dinner cruise that is a little more intimate than the large ships with several hundred people. The M...akani sunset dinner cruise was perfect with only 30-40 people and a much more personal feel. Check-in was 5:00 and we boarded the catamaran around 5:20. We were given a quick overview of the ship, safety protocol, and facilities and were off around 5:30. The initial drink service was a little slow with only one bartender but after the first round, ran fairly quickly. The food came out about 30-45 minutes into the trip and was a very tasty buffet line, similar fare to most Asian buffets in Hawaii. The catamaran is a great design with a lot of exposed areas to stand, sit, and sunbathe as well as rails all around the ship. There is also a covered seating/dining area below deck in the center with the bar that is perfect for getting out of the wind and/or enjoying your dinner. The night we went out was pretty windy/choppy but it didn't bother us and didn't look like anyone else aboard the ship had any motion sickness issues. The crew was very friendly and helped to deliver a great dinner cruise experience. We had captain Johnny, bartender Jenna, and can't remember the first mates name. The fireworks display finished off our night and then we quickly returned to the harbor. I'd definitely recommend this dinner cruise and will take friends and family visiting Hawaii on this again in the future. more
Upon arrival at the harbor the Malabo boat appeared a bit small for the size of the group. However once we boarded there was plent...y of room to sit inside as well as the option to chill on deck or even sunbathe. The staff was very friendly and funny, and were very knowledgable about the islands. We were very fortunate to have been able to spot a few whales in the water during the cruise even though whale season had just ended. The catered food was served buffet style and included teriyaki chicken, pasta salad, beef and broccoli, tofu wraps, and delicious egg rolls! The free drink vouchers included alcoholic drinks and their mai tais were super good!! They give the option of purchasing a large souvenir cup for $8 which you may use your free drink ticket to refill rather than the small plastic cups. The overall cruise lasted for approximately 2 hours, with the sun setting right as we were headed back to the harbor. Overall a great experience, especially for the price. Definitely worth it!! more
We wanted to do something special to end our week in Oahu and after reading some excellent reviews we booked this cruise. We booke...d it the same day with only about 4 hours before it departed...the phone staff were so helpful and patient as we selected a cruise. We had some challenges accessing the website to print our voucher but the reservation staff was so patient and assured us there would be no problem. We used the pick up option and the driver was so pleasant and helpful, he made us feel like we had known each other forever. Every member of the staff we came in contact with from reservation, shuttle driver, cruise staff..everyone made us feel so welcome and didn't hesitate to extend that extra effort! The cruise was amazing with views of Diamond Head and Oahu..music was enjoyable and the food was delicious! The Cruise was a perfect amount of time as It is still early enough to continue your evening when you return. We would definitely recommend this cruise and look forward to sailing with them again! It was the perfect, romantic end to our amazing week in Oahu! more
My friend and her Mother from Australia joined up with me and we went on this cruise to celebrate her Mother's 80th Birthday.... My friend is a vegetarian and she was a little concerned that there would not be anything she liked from the buffet. She was pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious (and hot) and there were sufficient dishes that she could enjoy. Drinks were also good not watered down and surprisingly quite a good variety to choose from. We had two drinks each which were included in the price. The ship was very clean with plenty of room for everyone to move around freely either inside or outside. We left on time and the crew were really nice and also quite funny giving the safety talk. I was very glad we had chosen this particular Sunset Cruise as was very enjoyable and we were pleased with the level of service provided to us. The weather was perfect and the sunset amazing. WE will recommend this cruise to our friends in Australia and in California as it is good value for a very good price.+l y more

The two drink voucher included alcoholic drinks and the Mai Tais were super yummy. They gave you a option of purchasing a large souvenir cup for $8.00 which you may use your drink ticket to refill rather than the small plastic cup. Way better deal.. We sailed around diamond head and then back to Waikiki. The sun set was amazing. There was nothing to complain about at all on this boat . It was definitely worth it and i would do it again on my next trip to the island .This is a must do so my sure it's on your list of things to do list . If you're looking to surprise someone for their birthday or even pop the question this is a perfect way to do it I highly recommend it. more

It was a special Friday night! We sailed all the way to the diamond head and came back to around Waikiki and stayed in the best sp...ot for the firework. The firework together with the view of Honolulu seen from the sea was exquisite! There was nothing to complain about the boat trip - the boat was clean and had enough space for everybody to enjoy the ocean view and the wind. The drink and food served was good, and the crews were very very friendly. The boarding time was about 3 hours which felt perfect for me. Some people didn't feel good because of sea sick, and I regretted not to having brought wind breaker - so prepare those for your own sake. more
I booked this cruise as a surprise for my girlfriend and she absolutely loved it! Every friday the Hilton hotel has a free firewor...ks show and this is a great way to view them and to make the evening that much more special. I would recommend this activity to couples but it is set up so anyone can enjoy. Our catamaran cruise started off with their driver coming to pick us up. He was on time and very friendly. We arrived at the dock early and had our first look at the Makani. It was very clean and was smaller than all the other catamarans in the area which was exactly what I was looking for. The boat held roughly 30-40 people. The only complaint we had while waiting to board was nobody came to talk to us about what was going on. Our group stood there for half an hour and as other groups showed up, we then found out we had to redeem our tickets. By this time there was a large line but thankfully they got everyone through quickly. Before we left the dock, the captain went over the features of the boat, introduced the crew and went over everything we needed to know to keep us safe. Once out out on the water, the crew invited us to take part in helping run the ship with their supervision. I thought that was great to make the experience that much more personal. We sailed for an hour then they stopped the boat so we could have our dinner. It was a buffet style with plenty of food to go around. We then found our spot in the water over looking the Hilton. The fireworks started at 7:45 and lasted five minutes. It was a great show and they used quality fireworks that were exciting to watch. more
Wow, what an amazing cruise!!! The weather was perfect, the sunset was dazzling, and my wife was stunning. With the sun setting in... the west, Diamond Head looming in the east, and just the wind in our sails, we couldn't have asked for a more memorable experience. To top things off, there was a rain shower on Diamond Head that resulted in a rainbow, absolutely gorgeous!!! The crew was great and the food was delicious. We were given 2 drink tickets each, my recommendation is to purchase the Makani insulated tumbler, twice the drink for only $8. We opted for the Makani signature High Tide, quite tasty. This was our second adventure on the Makani, both were awesome!!! Highly recommended. A special Thank You to Mikiko at Veltra for keeping me on track!!! more
My husband and I chose to do this activity as part of our honeymoon after friends bought us a voucher for Hawaii activities. Altho...ugh it was a little choppy going out (your fine if you stay out on the boat in the fresh air) we had the most amazing time!! The food was fantastic, the sunset was beautiful and the fireworks just topped off a perfect evening. We had so much fun meeting people and having a few drinks. Even if it's really hot make sure you take a jumper as it does get a bit chilly out on the ocean as the sun goes down. We would recommend this activity and the makani crew to anyone looking for this kind of activity!!! more
It was my husbands first time to Hawaii and on a catamaran. He loved this excursion and everyone made him feel safe and comfortabl...e. It was a beautiful evening. We had a beautiful time on the dinner sunset cruise! It was our honeymoon and this made it very romantic and special! The food was delicious and we went back for seconds! There wasn't a lot of seating on the boat so that was hard sometimes. The workers were friendly and Stretch really knows how to make the drinks! There were a few annoying girls that flirted with the workers and were loud, two people got sick, but these things are all uncontrollable. Overall, it was great and I have already recommended this cruise to family and friends! Thank you! more
It was an amazing experience and it was the best way the finish our trip. It was our last night and it was very romantic. The musi...c was great and people were having a great time. I recommend it to everyone who want to experimence a nice cruise and watch breathtaking firework. I already have recommended it to my best friend going in October. The food was great and they offered a good variety. The cocktails were fantastic and there was a good selection of beers and spirits. I only have great comments about that evening. Watching the firework on the water was just magical. The service was very nice and the staff were very thoughtful. I will do this cruise again next year when we come back. more
My wife and I have taken two Hawaiian dinner cruises in the past. This was our first dinner sail. At first we were concerned abo...ut the size of the boat compared to the number of people waiting to board, but we quickly realized that there was room for everyone. If you are wanting a choreographed dinner show, this is not the activity for you. This was a fun, relaxing sunset/fireworks sail. The crew was very nice, and walked around to check on the guests to make sure they were doing alright and even gathered up the guests' garbage. This was appropriate for families, couples, and groups. The crew even cast out two fishing lines to see if they could catch anything during the evening and caught a fish on one of the lines. We drove from the North Shore to go on the dinner sail, and it was well worth the drive. Parking was convenient and reasonable. I would recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before check in to get a close parking spot. The only thing I would suggest would be to serve a dessert option without nuts, as some people do not like them or have nut allergies. I would definitely recommend this activity and would do it again on our next Hawaiian vacation! more
We vacationed in Hawaii about four years ago, and the dinner cruise we went on then suffered in comparison to this one. The food c...ould have been better, but the overall experience was fantastic. The crew was extremely polite and funny, the food was decent, and the view was amazing. I got beautiful pictures of the island, ocean, sunset, and fireworks. We were even able to spot dolphins a couple of times during the cruise. Unlike the other cruise we have been on, we were able to walk around the boat and did not have to stay inside the cabin the whole time (if you did not want to). We could sit in the fresh air and enjoy the view rather than watching from a window. I highly recommend this dinner cruise. more
We booked this with our 3 girls, ages 8, 8 & 10. This is a very family-friendly activity, and the girls interacted with other... kids on the boat to make the experience better. The catamaran is comfortable and sails extremely well. We went all the way around Diamond Head before sunset, really good views! Dinner was salad, tofu rolls, chicken, beef, and extremely tasty. Not luxurious (if you want that, take the Star of Honolulu...for much more money!). The bar was well stocked. Sunset was beautiful. We had front row seats for the Hilton fireworks. The kids stayed interested and engaged the whole 3 hours, and adults had fun too! Transportation to and from Waikiki was efficient and on time. Great value and highly recommended. more
We loved the dinner cruise!!! The staff were awesome. Very friendly, willing to talk and answer questions. First captain was proba...bly sick of taking pictures for everyone by the end :) The food was great also. There was plenty for each person and then some. The buffet style was great so everyone could eat when and where they wanted not to formal. Relaxed and casual just like we wanted. Timing was perfect to see the sunset and the view was beautiful. Everyone was good about rotating on the nets to make sure everyone else got time. The only thing I would change about this experience is make it an adult only cruise. Everything else was great!!! Thanks :) more
We booked this cruise online, requesting a hotel pickup. The day before the booking we were contacted at our hotel to confirm day ...and time of pickup. On arriving at the boat all the guests were debriefed with safety instructions while on board (this was good to see), we were introduced to our crew, Johnny , stretch and Amy, who were all very approachable and friendly. We headed out from the marina and hoisted the sails. Not long after leaving the marina, we were all invited to get our meals. The food was great, tasty, light and plenty of it. As part of the package we each received two drink vouchers. We cruised from the marina right out to diamond head and back again. The sunset on the way back to the marina was just beautiful. We had a great evening and enjoyed meeting a number of people - if you like sailing and enjoy meeting new people, then I would recommend this activity. more
As my review title highlights, it is pretty much self-explanatory what I'm going to describe about this event that took place... on August the 28th, 2015. It was one of the most exciting moments of our lifetime. Since we booked this event we have been looking forward to it. Finally when the time arrived we boarded Makani Catamaran with a wonderful reception from the crews. They were all very funny and knowledgeable. The boat was clean and well organized. We sailed on time and were at the fireworks at the right moment. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner with beautiful music. On the top of that we were also given a free drink. Had a nice opportunity to view the sunset as well. It was everything that you can expect on your first event in Hawaii! more
This sunset cruise is well run, offers a good cruise out beyond Diamond Head and a great view of the Hilton Fireworks. Food is go...od but not luxurious. Very family friendly. Highly recommended! more
We spent an evening aboard the Makani during our honeymoon... What a great decision it was!!! The staff was very friendly, you tr...uly can tell that they enjoy their jobs and want to have their guests to have the best time possible. Our cruise may have had 20 other guess on board. They could have easily fit 2x that many so it was not crowded. The Bartender named Stretch mixes some delicious drinks, and they are STRONG :) Food was much better then expected. We enjoyed a beef stir fry, sushi wraps, egg rolls, teriyaki chicken, salad, white rice, cookies and more. The scenery was extremely romantic and a perfect evening during our honeymoon!! Special note: Bring camera and selfie stick. Alot of people aboard our boat didn't have one and said that is one thing theyd bring next time more
This sunset cruise is very amazing, we book this trip as part of our honeymoon special memory. We got picked up from my hotel(Marr...iott) @3:30pm with nice Benz shuttle bus, got port @4:45 and start trip @5pm on board the lovely Makani ship. The dinner start after 30 mins leave port, and really delicious(especially the chicken, my wife look a lot). During the trip, we saw the nice Waikiki beach view and diamond head mountain, the sea is so deep blue and so pure. it feel different from what you see at the beach! The exciting moment for this cruise must be at the sunset moment! and we are able to see it!(we stay there several days, but most sunset blocked by cloud, and we are so lucky that able to see the sunset!), in the attachment i attach few pics that i took at the sunset moment! Then we head back, we got back to port @7pm and ride shuttle bus back to hotel @ 8pm with nice memory. At last, the Captain looks very nice and professional and thank you give us a nice sunset cruise! more
My husband and I love the sailing cruise!! The rain was pouring down the day before and we were worried about our cruise, and it t...urned out the weather was just perfect on our cruise day. The staff are very friendly and make everybody comfortable. Dinner and two drinks are also delicious. We saw a very beautiful and amazing sunset in our life. The sailor girl is pretty cool when she pulls the two sails in wind. She also caught a large tree(not a big fish!) on our way back, which added to our trip another deep and funny impression. All in all, everything is great and we will definitely recommend this trip to our friends and probably try a second time!!! more
My friend and I booked onlne before we left Australa and couldn't wait! We weren't disapppointed at all. Once we left Ho...nolulu Harbour the sail went up. Sitting there and just chilling out was awesome. Dinner was served and was really nice with more than enough food for everyone. The crew were really friendly as well. We got two free drinks and believe me, their signature Hai Tais are a must have!! Seeing dolphins slice through the water beside us was just magical. Thanks to the mate for pointing them out to us! Everyone onboard had a really great time and I would thoroughly recommend this as an absolute must in Honolulu. I could have stayed on board all night but all good things must come to an end. I would definitely go again! more

We decided to do this on our honeymoon and we were really glad we did !! They picked us up at our hotel and then dropped us off wh...en it was over. Make sure you add this option as you will enjoy a few drinks and don't want to be driving back and it's far better than a cab! The cruise itself was fantastic. Calm waters and a leisurely pace out and back all the way past diamond head watching the sun set over the city and Waikiki it was amazingly beautiful. The dinner was very good and the bartender and crew were all friendly fun and professional. I would do this every time I visit Waikiki without question!! more
It was a great experience, from our pick up at Waikiki to the Pier. Everything was better than I expected, the bus had plenty of ...space, and the ride was smooth. When we got to the pier we only waited for 10 minutes in order to be inside the boat. My wife and I wanted to have a good time, since we are newlyweds and we were spending our honeymoon in Hawaii. The food was delicious and the bartender was one of the best in Hawaii, will never forget the High Tide, it really made my night better. It was a romantic night and the crew made the best they could in order to make us feel comfortable. I wish to go back again in my next trip to Hawaii. Aloha! more
Our friends who had previously been to Hawaii, said that we MUST do one of these sailing cruises on a Friday night. They weren...9;t wrong! This is a MUST do! This sunset dinner sailing cruise was awesome! 9/10 I'll break it down. The crew had charisma, they had explained everything in detail and they were extremely approachable for any questions. Excellent service! 5/5 The food was great! Island style means buffet style - my wife and I definitely weren't hungry at the end of the night! They even had cookies out for dessert! 5/5 on my books for food! They didn't have a blender, but that didn't stop the bartender from making a mean Mai Tai! They had a wide selection of beer, spirits, cocktails and soft drinks. I tried a High Tide as suggested by the bartender, amazing! Personally I like my crushed ice. Still good though, for Drinks I gave a 4/5. And most importantly the view of the fireworks was spectacular! Perfect view, the catamaran was right in front of the fireworks - everyone on the vessel could see the fireworks, there was no crowding. 5/5 more
A Fun, also on rainy days! We booked the firework dinner cruise a few weeks before we started our trip to Hawaii. The transp...ortation from the hotel to the marina (small extra fee) was on time and near our Hotel. The catamaran was nice und clean. After entering the boat the crew briefed us about the security on board. Due to the calm, we couldn`t sail but the engine was powerful enough to have fun. The dinner started shortly after leaving the marina. We had springrolls, chicken, rice and vegetables. Everything was tasty and well cooked. We specially like the miniwraps. After Sunset we had a nice view to Waikiki-beach. The firework started ontime and we had a place in the first row, very close to it. On the way back to the marina we had some cookies and drinks. We had a fun evening and enjoy our stay an board. Next time we wanna do it again. more

We took this cruise as a final romantic night to complete out honeymoon, and couldn't have made a better choice! The crew was... very friendly and entertaining, it felt as though they were a little family who'd invited us to enjoy their boat with them. Our bartender was a fun guy who poured great drinks, including their special "Hightide." I won't give away the recipe, but of course it involves significant parts Rum, Tropical Fruit, and Delicious. Ship was smooth sailing, giving us a nice calm view of Waikiki and the setting sun across the Pacific. The route taken goes out from the harbor and past Diamond Head, allowing for a wonderful view of it. Hiking to see the view from atop Diamond Head is one thing, but seeing the whole peak from sea is quite another treat. You'll get the feeling of a visiting explorer from the past, watching that peak and shore slip into view. Only difference is you're on a luxury cruise with Hightide in hand and some great party music playing. Our crew even managed to find us whales, and made sure we got a great view. Saw several surface, blowholes blasting, a fluke raise, and even a calf breach! Despite some other snorkel boats mentioning the possibility of whales, this was the first time we'd gotten to see them. Even more exciting that they were so close! Thanks again to the whole crew for making this such a wonderfull sail. Loved the food and drinks, danced to the classic hits being played, sat on the mesh net across the double bow, and ended our honeymoon with a beautiful sunset on the sea. Definitely booking the Makati again whenever we make it back to Waikiki! more
It was a great trip, food was amazing and the crew was a lot of fun.
We decided to splurge a little on the sunset dinner cruise our last night in Waikiki. Great decision. I booked on Veltra and got a... seniors' rate. The pick up and drop off was at no additional charge, and worked like clockwork. If you plan to enhance your ocean outing with lots of alcoholic drinks, it might be worth a bit extra to purchase the larger souvenir glass, which seemed pretty popular. A sweater or a jacket is a must, especially when the sun goes down. The staff were efficient and very friendly. Whales were spotted! Highly recommended activity. more
Great accommodating Staff! Great food and beverages! We look forward to doing Makani again during our next visit to Hawaii. I H...ighly recommend this package and experience! Thanks Guys!!! more

This was the highlight of our vacation. Watching the sunset over the ocean and fireworks from the water was fun and romantic. The ...food was pretty good and very filling. We had great time. I would highly recommend this excursion. more
WOW!! What a beautiful evening. The crew was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was good. The view AWESOME!! We would defini...tely do this cruise again. more
This was awesome! The boat is beautiful and the scenery even better! Food was a nice buffet and there was plenty to go around. Th...e crew is the best and take care of you all evening! A must do on Friday nights! more
My wife and I did this cruise on our last night in Hawaii and we are so glad we did. We had a beautiful sunset to the west, Honol...ulu and Waikiki North, and the moon rising over Diamond Head to the east. To top it all off there was good food and the awesome fireworks show. Seeing these from the water is something I highly recommend. more
My wife and I went for our anniversary and loved every minute of it. It's great to get out on the water in the beautiful Hawa...iian sunset. The crew was very inviting and polite and friendly. The food was great and the drinks as well. Will be coming back to experience it again on Friday so we can see the fireworks as well! more
A perfect way to finish our time in Waikiki, great music, great food on board and plenty of room to move around. There was quite ...a swell way out near Diamond Head, so would highly recommend a seasick tablet! more
Beautiful cruise, friendly, helpful crew and nice dinner.
This was my first boat, I have always had a fear of water. Decided to try something new and ended up having a wonderful time! The ...crew was great and it is such a relaxing ride. Good time to kick back, make new friends, and watch the sunset and fireworks. The best night I have had on vacation and would for sure do this again! more
Great time, highly recommend. Are crew was very knowledgable, the ride was good and fireworks display was awesome.
Lots of fun, good food, great crew. Safety and "fun" was the name of the game.
Great trip...good food...beautiful scenery! I'd return to do it again!
Nice sailboat. Good food and pleasant sail. Would recommend.
The catamaran was clean and very well kept in appearance. The crew was great and professional at all times plus courteous. We had ...a wonderful time and great experience on the sail and dinner. The food was good and plentiful! But be sure that you are aware that other than one drink non alcoholic or not is all that each get. Other than that it is extra but that was fine. more
I have to say that it was a great experience overall. The crew was very nice and accommodating, we were running late but they wait...ed for us. The good was just average but the views of the sunset and fireworks definitely made up for it. We both had a really great time. more
The crew was awesome! They were funny and very informative. The first mate was the best!!! I would highly recommend them.
Had an amazing time! Crew was awesome and food and drinks were great! Would recommend this for first time Hawaii visitors.
THIS WAS THE MOST NICE OUT OF THE DINNER CRUISES WE ATTENED
We had a wonderful evening on Makani. After reviewing several dinner cruise options, we selected Makani due to the great reviews ...and good price. It was one of our favorite excursions on our vacation! The pros: The staff was great - funny and personable. The food was good and there was a large drink selection, alcoholic or non-alcoholic. It was a very relaxing cruise with a beautiful view; it lasted approximately two hours, so you get to enjoy the sunset, as well. The cons: There is only one, which is that they provide transportation, but not from our hotel. Though they didn't require us to go very far, it was a bit confusing trying to find our pick up point as that particular hotel has several locations. Also a slight put off considering we passed our hotel going to the marina. All was fine in the end though, as it was nice that transportation was provided at no additional cost. Overall, I would highly recommend this excursion. We really enjoyed the relaxing, beautiful evening aboard the Makani Dinner Cruise. more
It was my first time to be on the cruise and I loved it! The food was delicious, the view was amazing, and the staffs were very ...nice and friendly. There were about 12~13 people on the cruise at a time, so the space was enough for everyone. more
My husband and I had an amazing time on the Makani sunset dinner cruise while on our honeymoon in Hawaii! The only downfall, as o...thers have mentioned, is having to wait to get checked in. With the arranged transportation, we arrived an hour before the boat set sail and could not check in until 30 prior to the departure time. The staff took excellent care of everyone throughout the night to make sure we all had a good experience. The food was casual but very good- especially the spring rolls! Drinks are reasonably priced with a variety of options. We especially enjoyed that the cruise was on a catamaran for a more intimate feel compared to a larger cruise ship. We would definitely recommend this sunset dinner cruise to anyone in O'ahu for vacation! more
Great captian and crew. Free pick-up and return from Waikiki, didn't have to be concerned about drinking too much. Fun evenin...g and great fireworks. more
We took the cruise for my daughter's birthday and she said it was her best birthday ever. The music set the mood for a reall...y fun night. The drinks were great and definitely not watered down! The food was really good and plenty of it! It was the most beautiful sunset I've ever seen. The staff was super friendly and fun. The fireworks at the end of the night was a perfect way to end an amazing evening. I wouldn't think twice about booking this again on our next visit to Hawaii, it was the highlight of our trip! Thank you! more
We had a wonderful time out on the Makani Catermeran this week. The crew was very friendly, funny and accomodating. The boat ride ...was also very smooth ( per the weather conditions ) and all of us looked like we had a great time. We never felt cramped, the boat was plenty large enough. Food was pretty good as well as the drinks!!! We stuffed our selves! One of the crew even fished as we sailed along, unfortunately nothing was caught this time out. The views of waikiki and diamond head were amazing! It was great to get to see the skyline from the ocean. The sunset was beautiful and was timed great on our way back! Thank you everyone at Makani Catameran! more
This cruise was incredible! My wife and I only had a few days in Waikiki and chose carefully how we wanted to spend our time. The ...cruise was definitely the highlight of our trip. The views were incredible, the staff was friendly, and the food was really good! If you're looking for a great photo op this is the place. It can be romantic, but also something fun to do with family or friends. The next time we are in Waikiki we will definitely take this sunset cruise. more
A friend and I both took our ladies on a surprise sunset cruise with Makani Catamaran and it was fantastic. It was definitely one... of those experiences that was so much fun time flew right by. The great thing about this catamaran cruise is that you launch out of Kewalo Basin on a slip, not off of a beach like some Waikiki cruises. This means that if you want you can really dress however you like- shoes, jeans, dresses. Once you get on the boat, you're introduced to the crew and they go through the obligatory house-keeping topics: Crew introductions, location of bathrooms, safety items, where you can go on the boat, etc. Then they go over how food and drinks work. Food for us was a buffet of five items: Veggie/tofu wraps, rice, potatoes, shoyu(soy sauce) and ginger chicken- which was the best in my opinion, and beef stir fry. Each item had one tray's worth of food, which was easily enough to satisfy everyone on board, although I don't believe there were any left overs. I've read reviews stating the food was a little nicer than Panda's Express, and that seems like a very fair statement. The cruise came with one free drink. On the boat non-alcoholic drinks are $2 and alcoholic drinks are $6, and the more alcoholic ones like Long Island Iced Teas are $8. You can buy a commemorative cup for $8 which holds about twice as much as the disposable cups you would get otherwise. Our bartender made good recommendations based on what flavors I told him we were looking for. The best part is just being out at sea with the people you're with. Aside from the crew instructions at the beginning, it's very hands-off. You just wander around the ship enjoying your company and great views. Although it can get a little windy, it's quiet enough that you can converse at a normal volume easily. If you get cold you can spend a few minutes on the inside of the boat to warm up a bit. If this is within your budget, I highly recommend it. It's simple, clean, and fun. more
The Capt and crew made the experience so much fun! The water, the weather, the skyline- the drinks! Highly recommended the speci...alty of the boat. Again - can’t say enough about the crew - very personable and engaging! more
We had to reschedule due to President Trump's visit to Oahu and disruption of island traffic. They were very accommodating a...nd pleasant in assisting us. We may have missed the fire works but the views were awesome, the music pleasant, and the dinner varied/good! Mahalo to the Capt and crew!! more
We really enjoyed the Makani Dinner Sail. Booking was easy through the website and the pick-up instructions were clear. When we ar...rived at the Illikai at the appointed time, the shuttle driver greeted us by name and we were off! On board, the crew was super-friendly and low-key, not uptight or scoldy at all, which is always nice when you're out on an adult dinner cruise. And I was really happy that once we got out into open water, the captain shut off the engines and proceeded under sail. Much nicer ambiance without the diesels droning. Drinks were perfectly fine. My only critique would be food quality. The buffet they rolled out was perfectly fine for a boomer reunion picnic but as a picky millennial, I would happily pay a little extra per ticket for a level-up on the dinner spread. Maybe audition a few new caterers? Just didn't think it was at the same standard as everything else. Overall though, a really lovely break from Waikiki! more
This was a really fun outing and I highly recommend. You get a good few hours on a spacious catamaran. The staff were all friendly..., helpful and funny. Food was delicious and buffet style with vegetarian options which was a plus. Included in the price is pick up and drop off which helped us immensely. The views did not disappoint more
The Captain & Crew of the Makani make the experience worthwhile. Wonderful, geniune people who truly love sharing the waters o...f Hawaii with you. A enjoyable morning surrounded by caring people. Highly recommend! more
The catamaran ride was great. The staff was very entertaining and made sure we had a good time. The fire works show was pointles...s. However, I still recommend the catamaran ride itself. more
Was an excellent sail watching the lights of Honolulu and the fireworks - it's beautiful and I recommend it to any couple. ... Only bad points were that they could provide a little more food for everyone and they missed us for pickup even though we were waiting at the designated spot well before the specified time but with many other tours departing that spot it can get hard to find people I guess. Thanks guys! more
Beautiful catamaran sunset cruise. We had whale sightings and a very nice sunset on sea. On Friday cruises you will be also to see... the the fireworks, they start 8PM and we saw these just before returing to port. The food is not spectacular and could be improved a little in amount and variety. Mixed drinks are complimentary two per person and have more than enough alcohol content, stay with the beer, if you tend to get seasick! Overall very enjoyable trip on a gorgeous boat!!! more
very nice boat, super staff. A little disappointed in the amount of sea life seen, which was very little.

Jon and his crew are hilarious and wonderful. It's a good short trip around the bay that I highly recommend. Great for firs...t times and repeat visitors. Excellent for kids!!!! more

We went out on Friday night to see the fireworks show. The ride was great, as was the sunset view. The fireworks were great, I jus...t wish they had been a little longer. There was no down side to this activity. I highly recommend it. more
First time in Hawaii, decided to do a sunset cruise. Really enjoyed it. Crew was excellent. Unfortunately you can't pick your... fellow passengers so occasionally you may find a winner. more
It was definitely a good value. I went with my dad and my sister. My dad said among all activities we went to in Honolulu includi...ng Luau and circle island tour, this is cheapeast and most fun. So I would definitely recommend to whoever comes to honolulu for first time. more
We loved the boat , the food, the crew and the beautiful evening. It was a a great event for teens as the alcohol can be monitor...ed and the bartender is very careful . She must be a parent. The only thing I did not like, was the extra charge for transportation. I thought it was included in the tickets, however, we had to pay an additional unexpected amount at the boat. It was a surprise as I booked early and spoke to the company a number of times. Never was a balance due mentioned. It ruined what would have been a great evening. more
My wife and I did this as part of our honeymoon. And even though it was a cloudy evening and we didn't get to see the sunset,... we still really enjoyed the trip. The crew was very personable and friendly. And even in choppy seas, the ride was smooth and peaceful. Got to see Waikiki from a different perspective, being on the ocean, and all lit up at night. The food was good, but the only thing that I would change is that the food could have been warmer. Overall an enjoyable time and I would recommend. more
We got a free shuttle bus from Waikiki but arrived in the harbor an hour earlier. I don't know why the driver pick us so earl...y. We just stayed in the harbor and took pictures of us to kill the time. After we had done the tour, we needed to go back to the hotel by ourselves by using the city bus. Hospitality, food, drink and music were all good! If you are lucky, you can see whales during winter. (We couldn't see them.) Besides that, the sunset was beautiful and hilarious. We suggest that you had better to bring sweater, jacket or whatever you like to wear in December and January as it is chilly and windy. Overall, we highly recommend you join this tour if you have enough time in Waikiki. If you don't expect too much, then this cruise is for you. The ship was small but it was okay for us to enjoy having dinner and seeing the sunset. more
It was windy and chilly because we joined this tour in the end of December. We thought Hawaii is hot even in winter but it wasn...039;t. Early morning and evening was chilly. Jackets or sweaters are must! My dad felt bad as he wore short sleeves and short pants. I saw some people had sea sick. Some of them were lying on the chair and did nothing. One of the staffs take them and told them to breathe a fresh air. I realized staffs were considerate and generous. Besides, food was good. They had six dishes, which were teriyaki chicken, white rice, broccoli with beef, vegetable burritos, macaroni salad, and cookies. Everything was fine.I think teriyaki chicken was the best. Most of the dishes were cooked with vegetables so everybody can enjoy having dinner. However, the dinner would be better if all the food was hot until we started to eat. Overall, We highly recommend you take long sleeves if you will join the cruise in winter. The sunset was beautiful and was the last time to see in 2014.(We're suppose to join the cruise on 30th but it was cancelled due to a bad weather. So, we did it the following day instead.) I guess all generations can enjoy this cruising! more
Being on a quiet catamaran sailboat is a unique experience in comparison to a noisy motorboat. The buffet dish I like the most was... the BBQ teriyaki chicken. The staff were experienced and friendly, starting off with a comical safety briefing and ending off with a friendly goodbye. The bartender was very knowledgeable about dealing with seasickness and different types of liqueurs. The drink special was a delicious tropical blend that fits perfectly with the environment. It was smooth sailing going out and back in, and we saw multiple whale spoutings in the distance. Listening to the relaxing music with the rhythmic movements of the ocean made a relaxing trip. more
The evening before the sail, the weather was nice, not too hot and no chill in the air. We chatted a little with the Bartender and... the First mate before the sailing. There were a few clouds in the sky, but nothing to worry about. We boarded the vessel with excitement and anticipation. This was my first time on a Catamaran boat, so I was interested in front of the boat, where they had the mesh/strapping on the floor. We started out into the sea, and for me this was the first time venturing on a boat onto the sea. We moved away from the shores, and stared out to the open waters. The wind blowing against my face in the open waters gave me a sense of relaxation and peace. I was eager to try sitting on the mesh netting, to feel the spray of the ocean against my legs. That too had a sense of peace, just relaxing on the mesh. But to my surprise, from the boat hitting against the waves, a blast of ocean water just covered my body. Sailing along the ocean waters, I was able to get a better view of the mainland of the Island. The mountains in the background were priceless to see. What was even more interesting is to see how the clouds just kept hovering over the mountains. As we sailed, the aura of just standing on the deck, the fresh air that took place made the voyage a pleasant one. The dinner was hot buffet, with enough food categories to make it easily appetizing for every individual. I am sucker for chocolate chip cookies, so I engaged a little more into those. As sunset was coming upon us and the view all around us just magnificent, I took advantage of the opportunity. I used the scenery and different parts of the boat to give the image of a picturesque life of being free. Now there were clouds in the sky at this time, but I was able to use the scenery of the sunset to my advantage, standing on the furthest point of the boat, looking out into the sunset. more
A great way to ensure a good view of the sunset and fireworks.A bit of a wait at the start and problems with me not producing a re...ceipt, despite them reassuring me prior that it wouldnt matter. more
The food was enjoyable, the view was beautiful and the crew was fun and inviting. The food was buffet style with chicken and brocc...oli and some rice, as well as some cookies. They had a bar with some nice mixed drinks and non alcoholic beverages for people as well. The ship was a little smaller and more crowded than we expected, but the crew did an excellent job of keeping everyone serviced and attending to guest needs. They were friendly and made sure to check on everyone to ensure no one was sick. We were out at sea for about 2 and a half hours, which is a good amount of time and there were a lot of waves out making it fun for many. more
My husband and I were on our first trip to Hawaii and decided to book the Makani Dinner Cruise for our first night in Oahu. The we...ather was beautiful and the boat was very comfortable. The crew was very fun, polite, and helpful. It was a little confusing though about the drink coupons, or maybe it was just me, but I thought that you got two alcoholic drinks with the coupons and then the nonalcoholic drinks were free, that wasn't the case tho, anything after the two were at a cost. I will say that the drinks were pretty strong. We didn't see any dolphins and I was disappointed about that, but I can't blame them for that. All in all we enjoyed ourselves very much and the sites were great. I would have given five stars if just water would have been included after the two drinks. more
My husband and I booked this cruise for my birthday and were pleasantly surprised. I was a little apprehensive as the yacht looke...d quite small compared to the number of people waiting to board. But once we were on board, there was plenty of room for everyone. There was a bar on board with a wide range of drinks to choose from (both alcoholic and non alcoholic). I wasn't too crazy about the food; it was too bland for my taste and because I do not like BBQ chicken. Some normal American food (bread, grilled chicken, mashed potatoes) would have made me a super happy camper. The ride was smooth for the most part and I loved the fact that the captain turned the yacht around when we spotted Dolphins and we were able to get a up close and personal look. Overall, I would recommend this cruise to anyone looking for a good time on the water and a beautiful sunset. more
The crew & boat ride was great. The food not so much. On a scale of 1-10, we rate the food a 1. The food might have been bette...r if it would have been warm & there was not enough table space to eat. The fireworks were great. more

I have always wanted to take a cruise in Hawaii and came across the Makani Sunset Dinner cruise and it seem like a great deal so I... instanty booked it. They also offer shuttle service from Wakkiki which I took advantage of. I received a detail confirmation on the cruise, as well as a phone call confirmation. This felt very professional of the company. The cruise ship captain and crew was also very friendly, professional and made sure we were all having a great time! The weather was great and overall great experience. The food was buffet style, the offering was simple but the food was good. You get 2 drink tickets and it's good for any drinks. You can purchase additional drinks afterwards but the cost is very reasonable. I had fun and would recommend for anyone that wants a short cruise to see the island from the ocean. Thank you for great experience! more
The scene of the sunset is marvelous! The beauty is beyond words and I can never get bored looking at the pictures taken during th...e cruise. It's an unforgettable Hawaii-only experience that I'll strongly recommend to all friends who will visit Oahu Island. more
I took my friend on this dinner cruise for her birthday gift and it was very enjoyable. Every time I'm on the Makani Sunset D...inner Sailing Cruise alway over the top amazing, the atmosphere aboard was terrific with great music and great crew. The crew was fabulous! The night views from cruise were tremendous and the food was very well done too. If you want something special while in Hawaii, you should go. You can also enjoy the beautiful sunset from offshore. Only advice I would give is they start serving food almost as soon as ship pulls out of port, it is almost dark. Interrupt your dinner to go out on deck to take pictures. I feel like I did not get enough pictures of sunset because it seemed to get dark very fast. more
Nice boat and sail. City lights and sunset beautiful. Got to see fireworks. Dinner Buffet very average. Best thing was the cook...ie for dessert. Some live entertainment would be nice. more
My girlfriend and I went on this cruise on a whim for some romance. We got a deal, so decided to try it out. Also, we are locals w...ho live on Oahu, so it was convenient. The staff (captain, first mate, and bartender) were kind of hokey, but friendly and on it. Dinner wasn't served right away, but drinks (beer, cocktails, soda, water) were available at the bar. You get one free drink ticket. The prices were reasonable, and they accept credit/debit cards. The dinner buffet consisted of teri chicken, beef stir fry, tofu lettuce wraps, veg lumpia, boiled red potatoes, and rice, and they were all tasty. I opted out but you get a cookie for dessert. The catamaran was clean and spacious. The ride was smooth, and the ocean was beautiful. We didn't see any sea life, but we understand that nature doesn't run on our time. The first mate announced the sunset when she saw it beginning, which was thoughtful. All the passengers were able to take pictures. We met a newlywed couple from Seattle. The passengers were a good group, all just chillin' and enjoying the perfect weather. My girlfriend got a bit cold when the sun went down and she brought a sweater, so I'd suggest that. Also, wear shades, slippers, and comfortable clothing, nothing fancy. The only criticism I had was that you have to check in 30 mins. before departure, and wait in the hot sun. The check-in attendant wasn't very friendly, but it's ok. It's not great to sit in a hot shack all day waiting to repeat the same instructions over and over to passengers. The parking isn't bad. We parked at Kewalo Basin Park and walked about 10 mins. but paid parking is $1/hr, I think. The cruise is a good way to relax, so I would recommend it for locals and tourists. more
This cruise is very relaxing and gives you the opportunity to calm down and enjoy the evening in a friendly and family oriented en...vironment, specially if you have already done lots of adventurous activities elsewhere. I definitely recommend to go on this cruise as part of your Oahu trip. We saw lots of couples and families and they all seemed to be enjoying the cruise, specially during the sunset. In addition, the food was pretty good too. It included several options and there was plenty so I think you won't leave the boat hungry. If I go back to Oahu, I will go back on this cruise again specially towards the end of my trip to chill, relax, and take good sunset pictures. more
My wife and I enjoyed a very nice sunset dinner cruise the other night in the Makani catamaran. The night started off with a frie...ndly driver picking us up at our hotel and bringing us to the boat. The only criticism of the whole night (very minor) is that we arrived at the boat around 4:40 but we're not able to "Check in" until 5 even though the girl was sitting in the booth waiting until 5. So rather than checking in as people arrived we now had an awkward line waiting to check in. Then we waited another 15-20 minutes to board the boat. Like I said, minor but the timing could have been better. Once aboard, the crew was great and got us quickly out of the harbor to enjoy the amazing views of the city and mountains. The food was as expected, a decent buffet. The drinks were good and reasonably priced. What you are paying for is the views and that sunset! That was worth every penny on our trip. The catamaran boat let you enjoy the experience a lot more as you are free to move around and sit on the front netting. more
We attended the dinner sunset cruise on Sunday September 10, 2017. Transportation is included at no additional cost. Our assigned ...time to ba at the pick up location was 3:40 for a 3:50 pick up. We were told to look for a black or silver Mercedes Sprinter Van. Many passed by with out stopping. As the time got later every van that flew past us just made us that more concerned that we may not get picked up. We were unstructured to call the Makani if there was any delay in transportation. When I called the recording said I was the third caller. When it finally said I was next and someone would be with me shortly, five minutes later it said they were experiencing high call volume and leave a message. I tried this a couple of times with no luck. Found out after the fact that they don't answer calls after hours so it does no good giving a number to customers. Around 4:10 a van came by. They had a small sign in the front window for Makani. The driver said he was just from a transportation company who gets called sometimes to pick up Makani guests. He received the call late which meant all the remaining guests would be that much later. We mad four stops on the way to the boat to pick up additional passengers and each was more upset than the previous. Makani should contact passenger and let them know that the transportation is running late or have someone answering the phone. The weather was a little rainy but it was still. Ice to get out on the water. We still had a nice time and the sunset pics were okay. You can't control the weather. The food served was actually really good. Teriyaki chicken, rice, egg rolls, veggies, etc. cookies for dessert. Beers were $6. Other boats included alcohol for around the same price fare but didn't have availability last minute. When we saw the boats that we called which didn't have availability they looked over full. All in all it was a good experience. more
I feel like overall this was a good experience. The original booking was cancelled due to weather, but they were great about resch...eduling (or cancelling altogether if we wanted) since it was weather. We went with another couple and were glad that we did. However, we did this more as a surprise and didn't have as much info as we should have (like someone not being great on boats). Despite that it was a fun experience. Like many things, it is what you make of it. The food was fine and the drinks were apparently good (I can only speak for the ones I tried but I enjoyed them). Once you get out on the water you kind of have to make your own activities since you are on a boat and that's the whole point of the experience. If you want to have an enjoyable time on a boat, its a great experience, but if you come hoping to be entertained or something then you will be disappointed. For the price its not terrible (with the rebate). Going with a positive mindset makes for a good time. Good company also helps. more
This cruise was short of wind and so no sails - on fault of the crew of course but it was disappointing. The crew was very good. ... The sun set was average. I was impressed with the boat itself. Nonetheless, we had a great time and would recommend it. more
Great idea - poor execution! It was a beautiful night and we were ready for a relaxing and delicious dinner cruise. Perhaps we mi...sunderstood what was being offered. First, our pick up was scheduled for 4:10 pm but didn't arrive until after 4:45 pm. After signing in and another short wait, we were invited to board. Even though we knew this was on a catamaran, we thought there would be tables for each diner. This was not the case. Maximum guests (60 - 80) were crammed onto the vessel. This included some young children. Food was very good for the most part, but dinner was a "serve yourself buffet". Not the best option with children on a moving boat. Also, it was impossible to enjoy the meal with the catamaran moving at a fast pace, wind blowing aggressively, and no good place to sit while eating. We still enjoyed ourselves but the price was a bit high for the event. Perhaps just a sunset cocktail cruise would be better. Some drinks and delicious hors d'oeuvres. P.S. The sunset was magnificent! more
Our family of 4 did a Thursday night cruise. The weather absolutely gorgeous, scenery spectacular! The crew were extremely capable... and very pleasant. We like what was trying to be done, but possibly too much is trying to be attempted. The food was a little disappointing for what we paid. There was only one table to eat on, otherwise you had to eat on your lap. Fighting the boats movement, the wind and everyone else on board was a challenge. We also felt like portion control was a must as the food supply seemed to be limited. I would suggest maybe not doing a full dinner, but maybe drinks and appetizers, and maybe some live entertainment. Also maybe a little more staffing would be helpful. Overall I would give 2 and a half stars. I liked what was trying to be done, but a little refinement is in order. But hey its paradise, nothing is that bad. more
Went with my wife and the boat was really nice and the crew was great. Got us is in perfect position to see the fireworks. The foo...d they provided was terrible, barely edible Chinese food. Would have been better off not having food on the boat at all. more
Nothing special, lots of people on the catamaran, the crew where great, unfortunately the food let the experience down, it was med...iocre at best.....alcohol was served in plastic cups, that I understand but not a great deal of variety, hubbie said the signature cocktail was ok, captain was great at getting the position right for the fireworks, probably wouldn't do the cruise agin more
The sailing was pretty, the views were gorgeous during sunset, and the boat was nice enough. The crew was great. But I don't ...think it was worth the almost $200 we paid to go as a couple. The drinks were fairly weak, and of course they talk you into buying the $8 souvenir cup under the pretense that you'll get a bigger drink for the same price as the small cups... but they just use more mixer and ice and the same amount of liquor. We expected that and weren't expecting much of the food either since most touristy things like this aren't the best in either department. I'm mostly bummed out that this was advertised as a lantern ceremony sail which is the only reason we booked it. We've wanted to see the ceremony for the past 4 years but didn't want to deal with the huge crowds on shore. I understand that with the surf, you can't get too close, but we hadn't realized just how far away we'd be. It was just distance lights far away against the shore that blended in with he city lights and traffic. I had my extreme zoom telephoto lens and even I could barely tell when the lanterns hit the water. People opted to pull up the live streaming of the ceremony on their phones, which honestly was kind of a cool mixture to be out there live on the water and get a closer view digitally, but not worth $200 for the experience. Overall kind of disappointed, but still a cool way to see a different view of the island. Just not the lantern experience we had expected. more
My husband and I recently moved to Oahu, and my parents were coming to visit us for Thanksgiving....I wanted to find something dif...ferent we could do so I thought a dinner cruise would be perfect and relaxing. The food was subpar, and they made it seem like it was going to be a huge spread. We did not get to see fireworks, when the weather seemed fine. And towards the end of the cruise, we were just hanging out in the same area for quite some time before we had to dock. I am usually not one to complain, or write reviews, but I suggest you ask specific questions if considering these particular cruises so you are not left disappointed. We felt as though it was a waste of our money, and we would have rather gone out for a nice dinner, and sat outside to watch the sunset. more
The cruise was just fine. If you want a real sunset cruise, the catamaran is not the way to go.
Enjoyed our evening on the catamaran. Food was awesome, bar, music and an amazing view of Honolulu!!!
So Baffled how We wede crammed into this vessel. No enough seats. All of the patron made the best of it. Not entirely sure ic t...hey ment to over book us or not. more
Operating a similar business on a neighbor island, it was clear the crew was burnt out on tourists. Too many customers for two cre...w and a captain. Waiting in line around 15 minutes for a drink to be made by the one crew member that had experience behind the bar was completely unacceptable. For over 40 customers to have one bartender and one deckhand that stood around looking pretty while the poor bartender served the drinks and even had to shut down the bar to prepare the food while the other deckhand was nowhere to be found. And his famous quote of the evening to make us feel like we were costing the company money to be out on the water was as follows "there is only limited amount of food to go around for everyone, and typically only one cookie per person." While they nickel and dime everyone for 2 small servings of alcohol/drink. Regarding the food it was limited selection with a pasta salad, one chicken, one beef, rice, an unappetizing tofu wrap, and one cookie. Also, there is limited table seating. Truly there is only space for 8 to 12 people to eat with a table, so it can be difficult to eat if you are sitting on the floor and it is choppy/wavy. more
