What To Expect
Volterra is a timeless town of incomparable works of art and architecture, bearing witness to over 3000 years of civilization. Admire the spectacular landscapes from the city, perched high up on layers of sandstone cliffs. Discover the ancient Etruscan town which is well known for the presence of Alabaster - the only translucent stone existing in nature.
Admire the impressive Roman Theater, the Piazza dei Priori and the Palazzo Pretorio.* See the magnificent Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, which is also known as the Volterra Cathedral, the massive Medici Fortress and the city walls with the ancient Etruscan port.
Enjoy a fascinating walk through Etruscan, Medieval and Renaissance courts, visiting traditional shops of alabaster and local crafts along the way. Free time will be provided for lunch, where you can also discover the town on your own.
We will then continue to the hills around Volterra to visit the open-air amphitheater created by Italian tenor and singer-songwriter Andre Bocelli. The "Teatro del Silenzio" or the Theater of Silence is nestled in the heart of the Tuscan land where the famous artist was born.
