City-Discovery.com announces the launch of their iPhone app by highlighting key features like geolocation targeting, iPhone image library integration and mobile boarding pass for selected Paris activities. The features are aimed towards helping travelers discover and book travel activities, and afterwards, share their experiences with fellow travelers.
According to the recent PhocusWright study on the destination activity market, nearly four in five travelers use a mobile device when traveling. The iPhone app, combined with the launch of the mobile version of the website last 2009, is only the latest company initiative aimed towards making their products more accessible to the today's travelers. In the US alone, the activities market is nearly twice the size of the car rental market, and bigger than cruise and tour operator segments combined.
The mobile version incorporates all search and booking features of the main site, including access to City Discovery's sister site, World-Airport-Transfer.com's catalog of airport transfers in more than 400 destinations worldwide. The iPhone app likewise allows travelers to find and book travel activities and airport transfers through their mobile devices. Users are automatically directed to local tours in their area through geolocation targeting. This provides travelers with location-specific information when and where they need them from the types of activities available to their specific scheduling details, and be able to book them right then and there.
Customers can also share their experience and photos taken with their iPhone camera immediately after taking their sightseeing tour or activity. Text and photo reviews can be submitted through in-app integration with their iPhone picture library. The feature is available for any internet-enabled iPhone or iPod Touch.
The mobile app provides an added convenience. Through an agreement with their local partners, City Discovery customers can redeem selected tours and activities in most destinations without a printed voucher so long as they have their electronic mobile boarding pass or booking confirmations saved on their iPhone. They simply have to show up at the designated pick-up or meeting point and present the confirmation to the local tour operator.
According to City-Discovery.com's Vice-President and Co-Founder Wladimir Guez, the ability to book sightseeing tours and other travel experiences are only some of the advantages for travelers, "We worked closely with our activities suppliers to make sure they are part of the mobile effort. They all understand we are at the verge of a mobile revolution and our move is progressive." Guez further adds that they are working on releasing an Android and tablet-specific versions of the app soon.
