Day 1: Transfer Airport / Hotel
Day 2: Breakfast. Excursion to Papallacta Hot Spring Waters & Spa
Departure from Quito, during the morning down the road that leads to the Amazon Jungle, enjoy a journey of about an hour and a half following The Cinnamon Route, the same one that the conqueror Francisco de Orellana took in 1542, when he crossed the Andes in the research of spices and gold to finally discover the great Amazon River. Upon your arrival, you'll discover your spirit of adventure doing a hike through part of the river Loreto - Papallacta by remnants of primary forest and grassland, where you can find different varieties of orchid species and waterfalls along the route, inhaling the crisp and clear air that's originated in the unique meeting of the winds of the Amazon Rainforest with the rocks, and water from the high mountains. Also learn with a short talk in the Interpretation Center "Exploratory" about the fauna and flora of the high mountain rainforest. Then you will experience the remarkable beneficial effects of the crystal clear hot springs and will be immersed in the SPA hot spring pools of Termas de Papallacta designed to make a circuit of 6 pools (5 hot spring water and 1 cold), receiving in each one different types of massages (water jets, whirlpool tubs with water and air bubbles). All this can be enjoyed within the Papallacta hot springs resort, where you can get lunch to further complement your visit with the different types of massages, with aromatherapy, body treatments and facials. Return to Quito. Lunch is not included.
Day 3: Breakfast. Excursion to Otavalo Market
Depart from Quito through the Pan-American North Highway via Cayambe. Brief stop at Guachalá (old equatorial monument). Passengers will have the opportunity to taste the delicious "Bizcochos de Cayambe", a type of cracker or bread baked in a clay oven (greatly paired with local cheese or caramel sauce). Afterwards, we will make a brief stop at "Miralago", to admire a wonderful view of Lago San Pablo, amazing views. The tour then continues to Otavalo where Otavaleños (natives) set up a market in which a bartering manner of shopping is taken place. The market hosts a variety of different handcrafted items. Passengers may choose between staying longer in Otavalo or go to visit to the leather shops at Cotacachi. Return to Quito picking up passengers in Otavalo (spot determined by Gray Line Guide), via the Cajas-Tabacundo road.
Day 4: Breakfast. Quito City Explorer (Historic Quito) + Equatorial Monument
We begin in the northern part of the city with a tour along the most important commercial areas, where most of the hotels in Quito are located. Then we head to the historic center to visit the Basilica del Voto Nacional, where we will make a brief stop and explanation to later reach the Plaza de la Independencia, where through a walking route you will see the Cathedral, the Government Palace, the Archbishop's Palace and the La Compañia Church, recognized for its adornments and gold altars. Tour will continue towards the Church of San Francisco, built in the seventeenth century. (Entrance to churches are not included). Then headed to the Mirador del Panecillo (entrance included) a place renowned for its beauty, where you can admire a beautiful landscape of colonial and modern Quito.
Extension included continues towards the northern part of the city heading up to the "Middle of the World City" (entrance is included) where the monument that divides the Northern from the Southern Hemisphere will be observed. It was built during the XVII century when a French Expedition defined the precise location of the equatorial line. At the end, optional visit either to Intiñan or Ethnographic Museum (entrance is not included).
Day 5: Breakfast. Excursion to Cotopaxi National Park
Departure by bus early in the morning through the Pan-American Highway where we can see beautiful landscapes and diverse ecosystems, it is a clear sign of the majesty of the Andes. We will go to the museum of the Cotopaxi National Park, make a short walk to see a magnificent view of the volcano (if the weather permits). Continue to the Limpiopungo Lagoon for an interesting walk, and if time allows, we will reach the the forest of chuquirahuas at 4200 m.
Free time for lunch and in the afternoon we will visit a flower plantation*, where we will have the opportunity to see the most beautiful roses of the world.
