What To Expect
We depart from Reykjavík and head to the geothermal area of Landmannalaugar, often called "The Pearl of the Central Highlands".
Our journey takes us through the beautiful countryside of southern Iceland. We proceed into the highlands through Pjorsardalur valley. On the way we visit Hjalparfoss waterfall (English: The Helping Waterfall) and the crater Ljotipollur (English: The Ugly Pool) on the way.
Landmannalaugars' colorful mountains were formed during centuries of volcanic activity in the area. The picturesque natural landscape in this raw climate is simply breathtaking.
While there, you can enjoy a relaxing bath in the natural warm pool which is created where many hot and cold springs mix together. Please note that use of soap is forbidden in the pool. Your other option is to hike around the lava field or enjoy one of the short hiking trails in the area.
The tour continues towards the west and past Iceland's most infamous and active volcano, Hekla, which during the Middle Ages was believed to be the gateway to Hell. The volcano has had frequent eruptions in the past years and has left thick layers of ash and pumice over the landscape.
Return to Reykjavík over Hellisheidi Mountain Heath.
