What To Expect
Skip the long entrance queue with our priority access and visit the Basilica with our professional guides.
We'll start with a guided tour of St. Peter's Basilica, the cradle of Christianity, and the biggest and most important catholic church in the world. Then, we'll give an impressive explanation of "La Pieta" by Michelangelo, the highest representation of love between the Mother and Child.
Continuing, we'll admire the Canopy built by Bernini right on top of St. Peter's tomb. See the interior part of the Dome designed by Michelangelo and all the masterpieces of the most important Renaissance artists.
The words 'luxurious' and 'elegant' will come to mind as you explore the interior of St. Peter's Basilica. The interior is lavishly decorated with marble, reliefs, architectural sculpture, and gilding. It is interesting to note that there are no paintings, only mosaics.
After the tour of the Basilica you will receive an audioguide for the visit of the Treasury Museum, one of the two museums in the Vatican City State. After passing through the 18th century sacristy of the Basilica - built with columns from the Villa Adriana in Tivoli - you'll enter St. Peter's Treasury, which contains church ornaments, statues, papal miters and various objects, usually gifts of kings or princes.
Notable pieces include the monument to Sixtus IV (1471-1484), a work by 15th century Florentine artist Antonio Pollaiuolo. There is also the sarcophagus showing the Pope surrounded by the virtues and the liberal arts, which was commissioned in 1493 by Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere (later to become Pope Julius II.)
