This is the Place Heritage Park is a living history state park depicting pioneer life in Utah. The 450-acre park reconstructs mid-1800 frontier village living and the experience of early Utah settlers.
The park consists of replicated pioneer homes, restored historic buildings and monuments, peopled by a cast of over 150 who represent Utah's earliest residents. Visitors can discover the history behind the early settlers by getting on three replica trains which goes around the park. The Native American Village attraction also reveals the lives of indigenous tribes who inhabited Salt Lake Valley before the emigrants came. The park also highlights authentic pioneer craftsmanship. Blacksmiths still create and repair farm equipment while furniture-makers work with different types of wood. In Jewkes Home, wool is still being spun and native plants are used for dye. The Deseret News Press prints one newspaper page at a time and the saddlery creates leather pouches from deer or cow hide. Children can experience the main mode of transportation back in the days and ride ponies at the Savage Livery Stables. They can also meet farm animals at the Petting Corral. A section of the heritage park called the Statuary Walk is dedicated to monuments commemorating the first Mormon Pioneers who took on a 1,300-mile trek to Salt Lake Valley. For a unique frontier shopping experience, the ZCMI Mercantile sells old-fashioned mercantile such as wooden toys, sarsaparillas and penny candies. Another nostalgic gift shop is found in the Visitor Center, which is also home to the Mormon Battalion Museum, the Stoddard Art Gallery and the Visitor Center Theater. After a day of touring, visitors can relax at the Huntsman Hotel and enjoy home-made food and refreshments.Apart from the seasonal activities, the park celebrates special events such as holidays and pioneer traditions.
