Description

Our Sound of Music Tour is a combination of Salzburg City Tour, an excursion to the Lake District and the places where the film "Sound of Music" were made

Our English-speaking guide will show you the highlights of the film and the historical and architectural landmarks in the city and part of the picturesque lake district.

Visit Mirabell Gardens which were laid out in the 18th century and where Maria and the children were seen dancing around the statue of the winged horse Pegasus as they sang the classic "Do-Re-Mi" in the film.

You will also see Leopoldskron Castle which was used as the Trapp family home and the Leopoldskron Lake, where the children fell while boating before meeting the Baroness for the first time. The ballroom used for the film was copied from the castle's Venetian room. Hellbrunn Palace is the next stop. Built in the early 17th century by Prince-Archbishop Markus Sittikus, the Palace's pavilion was used as the set for Leisl and Franz's duet of "I Am Sixteen, Going on Seventeen."

Nonnberg Abbey will also be part of the tour. It is the oldest convent in the German speaking part of Europe where Maria was a novice and where Maria and the baron got married. St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang will provide you with an opportunity to see the scenery shown at the beginning of the movie.

We will then proceed to the Mondsee Cathedral to give our tour a happy ending by visiting the location for Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer's wedding scene.

Even my traveling companions, who were not SoM fans, enjoyed the tour. The lake area sites were wonderful.

Kathleen Hogue

It was a great tour the only downside for us was that we didn`t see the Abbey, not even in a drive by.

Ann

Enjoyed the tour and our guide Natasha was well informed and kept us entertained. Great fun!

Brian

The tour guide was excellent and made the tour very interesting with her humorous personality

Filomena

Our tour guide rocked

Emma

Overall a pleasant tour. A pity that most of the key venues were not open to the public. Although I understand owners desire for ...privacy, just driving past these places is not very satisfying.
We went on the Lakes and Mountains tour the day before Sound of Music tour and were a bit disappointed to find ourselves covering some of the same territory. It would be good to make that clear to prospective participants.

The tour reads a lot bigger and better than it actually is... You do not visit Mirabell Gardens as part of the 4 hour tour. The bu...s terminal (where the tour starts and finishes) is located directly opposite the gardens so you can enter whenever you like (it is open to the public and there is no cost) but it will be in your own time.

It was good to see the Trapp family home, but you will need to zoom in a lot! There is a mention of a ballroom (?) but I don't recall going inside any ballroom.

I found it a waste of time visiting the Gazebo because it is located on the outside of Hellbrunn Palace (which you do not enter in this tour). There is so much to see and do in the 'actual' palace that I spent half a day there. Included of course, is the Gazebo which is also open to public.

Unfortunately it was pouring with rain while we were at Nornberg Alley, but this may be a pleasant lunch break if the weather is suitable.
