What To Expect
Visit the towering redwoods of Muir Woods National Monument and enjoy wine tastings in both Napa and Sonoma on this relaxing two-day getaway!
On your first day, you'll visit Muir Woods National Monument and several wineries in Sonoma Valley. After touring and tasting at various locations, your guide will deliver you to your night's accommodations at a hotel right near Sonoma Square. Downtown Sonoma is home to a variety of gourmet restaurants and fine wine tasting rooms as well as the historic Sonoma Mission de Solano. Enjoy your evening as you wish!
You will have more time to explore downtown Sonoma's highlights in the morning of Day 2 before you meet your tour group for some more wine tasting. It's just a quick jump to Glen Ellen, where you'll enjoy a fun and educational 45-minute tram tour of the Benziger Family Winery. The tour includes a tour through the vineyards, a stop in the wine caves, and a flight of tastings in Benziger's beautiful private tasting room. Afterwards, your group will enjoy a delicious organic picnic lunch (meal not included in tour rate). Your afternoon will be spent tasting your way through Sonoma and into Napa Valley, and finally back across the Golden Gate Bridge and to your hotel in San Francisco.
This two day tour is perfect for those who prefer a more relaxed pace and more time to appreciate both the wine and cuisine of the famous Northern California Wine Country.
This wine lover's tour begins with a hotel pickup between 08:00 and 09:00. A quick stop near the Presidio provides a view of the Golden Gate Bridge and a chance to learn about the history of this iconic landmark (fog permitting). After crossing the Golden Gate we head through the Marin Headlands to the Muir Woods National Monument.
Muir Woods is one of the last old growth coastal redwood forests in the San Francisco Bay Area. The marine layer fog provides the cool, moist environment that supports an amazing abundance of plant and animal life, from the coastal redwood to the slimy banana slug. After an hour and a half in this tranquil preserve, we'll head north into the Sonoma Wine Country to explore the famous wine regions of northern California. The northern California wine country covers an immense area extending from the Pacific Coast to Central Valley in the east and from Marin County in the south, well into Mendocino County in the North.
Wine appellations in the Northern California Wine Country abound with delicious varietals. For example, the Sonoma Valley alone boasts over 30 grape varieties and over 200 independent farmers. The area includes over 300 world-class wineries and tasting rooms, from palatial European-style villas to rustic family-run operations where you are made to feel like a member of the family. On our Redwoods and Wine Hotel Tour you get to live the California wine tasting experience.
In the afternoon you will be dropped off at your accommodations in downtown Sonoma which is located within walking distance of Sonoma Square. Your guide can provide you with suggestions as to restaurants, sights, tasting rooms and local wineries to fill your free time in this renowned wine region.
The second day begins whenever you want to wake up! You will have the morning to do whatever you choose to fill your time: taste cheese samples at the Sonoma Jack Cheese Factory, visit the Mission San Francisco de Solano, the northernmost mission in California, or peruse the boutique shops that surround this center of commerce. The choice is entirely up to you. In the late morning, you will meet up with the group for more wine tasting in the Glen Ellen area, eventually heading into the famed Napa Valley.
Our first stop will be the Benziger Family Winery and Biodynamic Vineyard, where you will enjoy a close-up look at the vineyards, fermentation facility, and crush pad on a comfortable tram tour. You will also have a chance to walk through their barrel caves. The tour is approximately 45 minutes long, and includes a special tasting of Benziger's biodynamic and other award-winning wines.
Lunch is next. We'll enjoy a picnic lunch on a shaded patio. Then, you'll head to Imagery winery to taste more award-winning wines and browse through their fine art gallery!
In the afternoon, we will travel over to famed Napa County for more wine tasting in Oakville, Yountville, or in the town of Napa. The landscape of rolling hills laced with rows of wine grapes is impressive and will provide a romantic backdrop for memorable photographs.
If time permits, a stop for a glass of sparkling wine can easily be integrated into this tour (optional). On the way back we will stop for an evening view of the Golden Gate Bridge, with the city illuminated in the background. The tour will conclude with hotel drop-off at approximately 18:00.
