Discover two of California's top attractions in this amazing 2-day tour: visit several wineries and enjoy wine tastings in Napa and Sonoma regions, and explore the Alcatraz Islands while imagining yourself being imprisoned in the most famous federal penitentiary in US history!
Day 1 - Wine Country Tour:
Among the 1400 Wineries of California, around 650 are located in San Francisco's backyard of the Sonoma and Napa Valley counties.
Get picked-up from your hotel and head north aboard your van or minibus across the Golden Gate Bridge for the most amazing day. During the 1-hour drive from San Francisco to the Wine Country, you will discuss about yout itinerary with your friendly guide. With this semi-private tour, you can choose to go in the Napa Valley Region, Sonoma Valley Region, or both. Decide also when you want to stop, and in which wineries.
This trip will give you the opportunity to visit three to five boutique wineries during the day. Along the tour, your guide will educate you on the history of California and wine making. You will be able to take a break to enjoy a tasty lunch in between your wine tastings, or maybe at one of the wineries! Do try to keep a clear head for the next day though, because you will be visiting Alcatraz Island!
Day 2 - Alcatraz Island Tour:
The Alcatraz Island was once a lonely maximum security prison which housed America's most wanted criminals for 29 years, and whose population, including guards and staff, never rose above 500. Since 1973, when Alcatraz has been open to the public, it has become one of the most popular destinations for tourists visiting San Francisco.
Enjoy a ferry and ride across the San Francisco Bay to Alcatraz Island. Upon arrival into the prison, you will receive a headset for the audio presentation called "Doing Time: The Alcatraz Cell house Tour", which includes 45 minutes of recordings of actual guards and inmates who lived and worked on the Island. Also learn interesting facts about the island, such as that Alcatraz was not only used as a prison but also as a harbor defense fort during the civil war and before then, was America's first lighthouse on the West Coast. At the en of your tour, you will get to explore the Island at your own pace before taking the ferry back to San Francisco!
