While Singapore is clearly a small city-state, it is one of two cities in the world left with a considerable area of primary rainforest (the other one being Rio de Janeiro). This is evident in the sprawling 164-hecatre Bukit Timah Nature Reserve that surpasses the entire North America in its number of tree species. Also found here is Singapore’s highest peak Bukit Timah Hill, which towers over the city at 164 meters above sea level.
