About Skopje

Visit Skopje, the capital of the Republic of Macedonia, and enjoy a quaint, picturesque smaller-sized city with lovely sites and landmarks. Take any of our 2015 tours to Skopje, or use the city as a springboard for trips to surrounding sites, and enjoy visiting a historic region in Southeast Europe that takes you on a journey into the past.

Go on a Skopje walking tour and explore the lovely Macedonian capital. Start on the city plateau and enjoy a stunning view of the city skyline, before heading on to Kale Fortress in the Old Town of Skopje. Visit the Mustapha Pasha Mosque, a mosque dating back more than five hundred years to the time of the Ottomans. Travel to the Church of the Holy Savior, and the nearby Goce Delchev museum, and even optionally visit the Museum of Macedonia. Proceed to the Old Bazaar, a merchant quarter that may have existed as early as the 12th century, and has survived earthquakes and two World Wars. Visit the Turkish baths of Chifte Hammam and Daut Pasha Hammam, which go back to the 15th century. See the marvelous Stone Bridge, among the oldest landmarks in the already historic and ancient city, as well as the Holocaust Memorial Center, and the Museums of the Macedonian Struggle for Independence and of the Victims of Communism. Pay your respects at the Memorial House of Mother Teresa, then go end the tour at the Museum of the City of Skopje, contained in what was once the Old Railway Station, damaged in the 1963 earthquake that shook the city.

Take a Stobi wine tour and venture into some of the best wine experiences you could have. Acquaint yourself with wines from all over the world, from the Napa Valley in California to Bordeaux in France. Learn about wine technology and production, especially in the context of the vine growing and drinking traditions of Stobi and Macedonia. Enjoy cold snacks that perfectly complement your wine, with cheeses and various meat specialties ready to titillate the taste buds.

Go further past the city limits and go on a Matka sightseeing tour. Visit the Monastery of Matka, home of the annual Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God religious festival. Walk along the Treska riverbanks, famous for its kayaking tournaments. Pass by the dam and the man-made Matka lake before reaching the Monastery of St. Andrew. Go on a boat ride around Matka Canyon’s 8 kilometer length, enjoying the scenic surroundings, then climb up a forested hill to reach the Monastery of St Nikola.
